controlling SS execution speed...

Hi All,

with today fast computers, sometimes SS is just running too fast, and this is a problem for some multimedia applications where for instance animations or cinematic sequences run too quickly...

is there a way to slow down the execution speed of the emulated code?

best,

Re: macromedia director 6.5 projectors crash with SS

Yes, maybe this is some missing emulation of PPC opcodes; if this is the case, that indeed might ask a long time to fix... Maybe this is something else much simpler... I am not a specialist of PPC instruction set, emulation and more generally assembly/machine languages, so i leave it to you. You can...

Re: macromedia director 6.5 projectors crash with SS

i've installed MacsBug 6.6.3 (6.5.3 does not work) and the crash is fatal, no debugger invoked... so sure it's a SheepShaver problem... The problem might be in non emulated PPC instructions in SS, or badly emulated instructions; see article Incorrect emulation of PowerPC "twi" trap opcode ...

Re: Incorrect emulation of PowerPC "twi" trap opcode o

Hi All, i am also fighting for SS to play director 6.X applications... see my post here with attempt in 9.0.4 and 8.1 : http://www.emaculation.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=8047 is this non emulated 'twi' opcode could be the cause? how difficult would it be to add emulation for 'twi'? and more ...

macromedia director 6.5 projectors crash with SS

Hi All, i am exploring the use of SS for playing old cd-roms, most of them developed with Macromedia Director. Some years ago, i tested the version 2.3 (2009-10-25) with classic 9.0.4 (still on my macbook with 0SX 10.6.8). PPC director projectors generated with Director 6.5 systematically crash. The...

Hi umax, happy to see someone still remembers this cd-rom! I was checking your cd on macos 7.61 with a standard-install of quicktime 4. the movie "Clo.mov" gave me an error in movieplayer "missing codec: image decompressor", and it did not play in the director-player - as expecte...

QuickTime is getting corrupted: test case

Hi All, As i have many problems with QuickTime which seems to get corrupted after launching some files or applications, i tried to produce a test case with reproductible bugs. This test case is a small part of a cd-rom my company Magic Media developed in 1995. Entitled 'The Maeght Foundation, a stro...

ok this works. i made a mistake converting the file "Mac OS 9.0.4 Update.smi" to a .cdr format; now i have upgraded to 9.0.4 and QuickTime 4.1.2 but i still have many problems with movie files : QT does not recognize them as it seems to not find usual codecs such as video or cinepak, very ...

Hi Ronald, There is indeed a problem in the 2.3.20091025 build that prevents startup up from a CD while a bootable volume is in the volumes list. ok But you do not need to startup from a different volume to update 9.0 to 9.0.4. The update can be applied to the startup volume. this does not work... i...

booting from CD, CD not mounting

Hello, i am just starting with SS and i am excited to maybe be able to play again the many art cd-roms produced during the 90s! Indeed some of my old cd-roms work, some other systematically crash and corrupt QuickTime, some do not work at all... my config: MacBook Pro, OSX 10.5.8, SS 2.3.20091025, n...
