Re: Some Nuts and Bolts
For years, I have used the advice given to me ten years ago (Re: Some Nuts and Bolts Post by Ronald P. Regensburg » Sat Feb 11, 2012 2:30 pm) for making a backup of files in my Sheepshaver drive. But today when I have tried, it seems that it doesn't work. I don't know whether something has changed o...

Re: Another case of crashing at start-up (System 7.5.3)
Thanks. Problem solved. The mistake I have been making is putting all my uses of Sheepshaver into a single instance of the application. That's why I needed more RAM. Since I use Sheepshaver for different purposes, I think that this means I should have separate Sheepshavers for different purposes and...

Another case of crashing at start-up (System 7.5.3)
Sheepshaver crashes on startup I use Sheepshaver all the time, using System 7.5.3, and today I tried creating a larger RAM. I must have done something wrong in setting this up since it immediately crashed on startup. However, I can’t even start up the one that I have been using for years. I even had...

Re: Yosemite: Command Button Responsiveness
I am having a similar problem with Sierra. The Command key is frequently not working in that when I combine the Command key with another key, the result is as if I just entered that other key without the Command key down. It seems to happen randomly, about 25% of the time. I have had this problem fo...

Re: Some Nuts and Bolts
I have followed these instructions (Ronald’s Sat Feb 11, 2012 9:30 am post) a number of times successfully, but I today was the first time I tried to do it on a new laptop running under OS 10.8.3 and it didn’t work. I can create the disk image and it mounts (or appears to mount) under OS, but when I...

No shared folder
I have been using Sheepshaver on my computer at home for over a year. Today I tried installing it (the latest build) on my computer at work. I tried using the disk image I use at home with the one at my office and it did open correctly. The only problem is that there is no shared folder. Is there a ...

Re: Some Nuts and Bolts
I have a problem that is a just part of the problem described on this thread. Namely, whenever I copy files (or folders) from my Sheepshaver drive to the shared folder, it changes the date modified to the time and date when I do the copy. What can I do to make sure the date modified remains the same...

Re: choosing application to open files with
Thanks. I have used PC Exchange to set the default application for .rtf to Word and .txt to Text-Edit. But although it looks right in PC Exchange, both still open in Simple Text (and appear in the directory as having Text document as their kind). I’m not sure what’s wrong.

Re: choosing application to open files with
- Which system/MacOS version do you use now? Mac 7.5.3 - Which Word version do you use? Is it the same version you used to edit the files in the past? 5.1 (for Mac) - Do the files have a .rtf file extension? Yes. But why should this make a difference? I thought Macs didn't pay attention to file exte...

Re: choosing application to open files with
I spoke too soon. Dragging these files to the Word icon doesn’t work for these files, just as dragging a file that can’t be read by Word (like a PDF document) to the Word icon doesn’t work. If I have 50 RTF documents that I want to open, I don’t see how to do that other than labouriously opening eac...

Re: choosing application to open files with
Thanks. I forgot about dragging files to the application; for some reason I never do that. But it solves my problem. For some of the the files I am talking about, another text editor won’t work because these files are RTF formatted files generated by a Pascal program (my main reason for using Sheeps...

choosing application to open files with
I find that I’ve forgotten how to do various things in System 7 that worked differently from Classic, so this is more a System 7 question rather than a Sheepshaver question. But how can one choose the application that opens a file? I have large text files that I want to open in Word but System 7 tri...

RE 1. I suppose that you did indeed followed a mixture of instructions from those two guides, that you use the 06-11-2010 build of SheepShaver for MacOSX, and that you use an old world ROM file as needed for 7.5.3. Is that correct? Yes, all of those are correct. RE 2. Which disk image, with which sy...

I am having exactly the problem that hatrickpatrick described on this thread four years ago. When I try to install 7.5.3, I get the error message Unable to execute System 7.5.3 01of19.smi This file is invalid and should be replaced (-8819) So I will try to answer Ronald's questions as they apply to ...
