Re: Working on bin/cue support in SheepShaver

I'm honestly not sure. I don't think I've gotten a successful bin/cue file using the cdrdao & toc2cue method myself. Perhaps relevant: the toc2cue man page has a note about static noise from audio CDs for recording. Would you be willing to share one of your bin/cue files? I could try to reproduc...

Re: Working on bin/cue support in SheepShaver

Is this the Beethoven CD: Beethoven and Beyond ? I downloaded it from Mac Garden and am unable to reproduce the issue of static. If you try Mac Garden's version, does it work for you? For your CD copies, I can only guess as to what's happening, but it is interesting they all played on your older ver...

Re: SheepShaver doesn´t work

From your video, I also noticed that you're clicking "Reopen" on the prompt to restore Sheepshaver to its previous state. It may not have anything do with your issue, but Sheepshaver will likely fail to restore. If you click "Don't reopen", does it still immediately close, or do ...

Re: Working on bin/cue support in SheepShaver

Hi, dom, It sounds like you're building from source for Mac OS with CoreAudio. In that case, you would hear static since the CoreAudio API has slightly changed, and I'm not sure the exact fix needed. However, rather than troubleshoot CoreAudio, if you're using code from kanjitalk's repo , you can bu...

Re: SheepShaver on Apple M1

I've been experimenting with this on and off for a few days, and kanjitalk's fork does build, although you have to build a universal or native SDL2.framework to embed. However , in a bizarre set of errors I've not really encountered before, arm64 SheepShaver currently refuses to launch. I've tried a...

Re: Disk Images

Sadly, it's no longer easy for Macs to handle standard HFS. Apple continues to remove many backwards-compatible technologies, and mabam's advice of hfsutils is about the only workable solution. It's worth noting that hfsutils is just a collection of command line tools; it has neither a GUI of ...

Re: Higher your monitor's resolution, tinier Basillisk's screen.

What exactly is this gammaramp supposed to achieve or solve? Upon further thought, the prefs item might more accurately be called `gammapassthrough`. Rakslice implemented the core functionality recently . Previously, all display settings were fully virtualized, but with this change, the emulated Ma...

Re: Screen Brightness

In the absence of other info, my first guess is the gamma ramp bug kanjitalk mentioned for BasiliskII and further discussed on GitHub . Some games were exhibiting odd behavior when changing color palettes and gamma settings; in particular, games using 16-bit color depth (thousands of colors) may app...

Re: Scrutiny in the Great Round

I tried this game in Sheepshaver, and it may be a Quicktime version issue. They include Quicktime 2 in the installer.

If you have older Mac OS systems, adespoton is right that you might consider BasiliskII for this. Using BasiliskII and Mac OS 8.1, the game seems to run as expected.

Re: Frequent crashes on boot and when launching apps

I tested Oxyd on my setup, and it seems to run, if a little jittery when using the mouse control. I'm trying to think what could be causing different behavior between the January build and the latest one. Zapping the NVRAM is worthwhile since it occurs to me the latest build may try to load the nati...

Re: Working on bin/cue support in SheepShaver

@almeath: I tested with the Mac Garden images, and I was able to get CD Audio working for 3 but not 2. Note that you must install the game and video folder directly to your hard drive and run the game from there (not the CD) for it to work. The Readme explains that it's too much data to both play th...

Re: My new 26 July 2020 build crashes often at shut down

Thank you for fixing it, kanjitalk! I'm sorry to have added that stability issue  I tested a couple hours last weekend and was able to reproduce the issue at least once, although without a conclusive fix or PR. In my case, it seemed like finding the available drive num was perhaps the root cau...

Re: Working on bin/cue support in SheepShaver

I've not tested the Alone in the Dark games, but I'd like to try them out to see if audio can be played. Unfortunately, I don't have a copy of these games, but I'll check the Mac Garden versions for CD audio.

Re: My new 26 July 2020 build crashes often at shut down

From the crash log, it's the sys_unix bindings for getting CD volume that caused the crash.

Which OS version do you use? Do you have any CD ROMs mounted, either as disk, cdrom, or bincues? It's odd that there's a call to get CD audio volume when the system is shutting down.

Re: My new 26 July 2020 build crashes often at shut down

I'm glad it's been isolated to something that came in with bin/cue support; that's at least some direction, but I'll keep trying to reproduce it and see if there's some small fix that can be put in.

Do you get any output in the Console after the crash or a crash report?

Re: My new 26 July 2020 build crashes often at shut down

I'm not able to reproduce it here on Mojave, 10.14.6. Are there any particular steps or settings you've noticed that lead to the crash or does it seem random? In my PR, thanks to kanjitalk's prompting, I fixed a couple optimization bugs to make release builds more stable. They've all been resolved a...

Not that I'm aware of, but Mojave is still my daily driver. What I have done ever since testing with Catalina or Big Sur is set Full Disk Access and leave it that way after having any permission issues.

Re: Permissions or sandbox issue in Catalina 10.15.6

Not sure if it'll help with your problem, but whenever I test on Catalina, I always have to be careful to add the SheepShaver executable to System Preferences -> Privacy -> Full Disk Access. Permissions are getting increasingly locked down in macOS, and at some point, the Mac builds of Sheep may nee...

After a few additional edits to enable optimization, this code is now merged into kanjitalk's repo . Thanks for those links, Cat_7! SheepShaver on macOS Big Sur

I've been playing around with the beta for macOS 11.0: Big Sur. The good news is that SheepShaver builds and runs just fine! https://i.imgur.com/4jZibvl.png There are a couple considerations though: 1. This is running on Intel, so it's not too surprising that everything's fine. Not much has changed ...

Ronald and adespoton are right as BII probably won't do exactly what you want. However, if you want to try this build of BasiliskII , you'll be able to play CD audio from bin/cue images (download it under Assets -> BasiliskII.app.zip ). These features aren't in main builds yet due to some outstandin...
