Re: OpenVPN bridge script - proposed changes -MAC address
I've updated the guide to include the changes regarding the MAC address. As for the DHCP-given address, I briefly tried a few things, including what you wrote, but couldn't get it to work. It seems as if something else in Debian's boot sequence is engaging DHCP independent of any OpenVPN script comm...

Re: Bridged OpenVPN Server Setup
I think there's some confusion about ports vs. addresses. Only traffic addressed to your server will go to your server. So unless your server hosts a website that someone's trying to browse, HTTPS browsing traffic elsewhere on your network won't be going to your server. The fact that you have a port...

Re: OpenVPN bridge script - proposed changes -MAC address
Thanks a lot for these improvements. There have been some quirks in Debian and VirtualBox lately. When I sort these out, I'll update the guide.

Re: Sheepshaver and IPX ?
MacIPX doesn't work with the official SheepShaver build. It requires patched drivers made by Masaq':

I never got around to trying this myself, however.

Re: Bridged OpenVPN Server Setup
The problem could be in the openvpn-bridge script, which is the script that deals with the IP addresses.

Re: F/A 18 Hornet 2.0 on system 9
Running the 2009 Basilisk II build in Snow Leopard Server in Parallels Desktop is in fact my preferred method of running Basilisk II, so yes, it's possible. If you get the question mark, then something must be wrong with how Basilisk II is configured (the ROM?), i.e., some problem that could occur o...

Re: F/A 18 Hornet 2.0 on system 9
There is no known way to get F/A-18 Hornet 2.0 working in SheepShaver. This must be due to some limitation in SheepShaver's programming, because as you pointed out, Hornet 2.0 probably does run in OS 9 on real hardware. In fact, Hornet 2.0 has the "Accelerated for Power Macintosh" badge on...

Regarding what Lymerik was originally asking about, you need to have "Gravis Mousestick" enabled for the plane to be reasonably controllable with the mouse.

The version of F/A-18 Hornet Classic in "9 BIG ONES" works in SheepShaver Mac OS 9.0.4. I've played it off my own copy of that CD.

Re: Bridged OpenVPN Server Setup
The only thing I can suggest, other than the obvious checking for spelling errors, is to check the permissions of the openvpn-bridge script. But you should get "Permission denied" if the script was not executable (if you missed the "chmod" step of the setup instructions), not &qu...

Re: Sheepshaver Ethernet Troubles (LAN)
The AppleTalk guide that Ronald linked is missing a step because I caused it to get screwed up. It needs to be updated. Also, while setting up AppleShare as in the guide is useful for testing the AppleTalk connection, it will interfere with AppleTalk games in Mac OS 9 (and at least some versions of ...

There was a discussion about FrameMaker 7.0 compatibility in SheepShaver:

Specifically, running in "Structured FrameMaker mode" helps compatibility.

Re: Emulating CD Drive for images?
I have the same freezing problems as described earlier in here. If you mean freezing during the opening cinematic, then I don't know what the problem is. I just tested TIE Fighter in Mac OS 8.5.1 in SheepShaver 2014 in OS X El Capitan, and it's fine other than the slight lag described here . It loo...

Yes, and furthermore, the OpenVPN forums are unfortunately chock-full of incorrect information, especially regarding bridge mode. Since Red Hat uses systemd, you should be able...

Not sure whether you were joking, but that user's name is thecloud. Space Cadet is his rank on the forum. More nitpicking on your guide: I see there are a lot of terms such as "Wi-Fi router," "Wi-Fi network," and "Wi-Fi/LAN IP address." I think these terms should simply...

Re: New VirtualBox Mountain Lion SheepShaver MacOS 9 Tutoria
One more thing that I think should be pointed out: You shouldn't have to burn a physical DVD to install the guest OS X in the VM. Using the disc image itself should work. I can just picture a newbie who has, say, a brand new MacBook Pro thinking, "Darn it! I need to get a disc drive!"

Re: New VirtualBox Mountain Lion SheepShaver MacOS 9 Tutoria
Hi, First of all, I think it's great that Old-School-BBSer has taken the time to document this setup procedure. I'd just like to point out that this setup should work using OS X 10.7.5 Lion as the VM's guest OS, since, as I wrote here , ethernet bridging is available in 10.7.5 (maybe not in earlier ...

So what exactly do you have to do to make MacIPX work? And what version of MacIPX do you use? I've read, e.g. here, that versions earlier than 1.3.1 may not work.

Re: tuto Bridged OpenVPN Server Setup question
Sorry, I made a typo regarding the server interfaces. The correction in my previous post is in bold . If you think your server is working, then that's fine, but I'd still like to say for the record that the server's eth0 and br0 interfaces shouldn't both have a local IP address, only br0. The method...

Re: tuto Bridged OpenVPN Server Setup question
Hi, First of all, we need to be specific about whether something refers to the server or a client. For the server: Do you mean eth0 and br0 have the same IPv4 local IP address? If so, that shouldn't happen. Try increasing the "sleep" command in the bridge script to "sleep 10" to ...

Ethernet Bridging in Mac OS X 10.7 Lion
I just discovered that you can perform ethernet bridging in the Mac OS X 10.7.5 terminal the same way that we previously thought was possible in only 10.8 and up. I guess Apple must have implemented it in a later version of 10.7 (or was it always there?). I quickly tested it with Basilisk II, and it...

Re: OS X 10.6, Basilisk II, tuntaposx bridge failure
Hi Cat_7 and all, Since I'm the one who said that the tap interface doesn't need an IP address, I'd better clean up my mess. At that time, I'd worked with bridging in only 10.8+ and not in 10.6 using IPNetRouterX. Recently, I looked into running the 2009 build of Basilisk II in a virtual machine run...

Re: Emulating CD Drive for images?
Yup! Following the full instructions for the Virtual DVD-ROM/CD Utility got it working. Good to know. This suggests that the "DVD/CD master" (.cdr) image format doesn't produce a 1:1 copy, or as close to a 1:1 copy, of a CD as other methods. I made my TIE Fighter image using Toast (versio...
