Re: Ubuntu Xmodmap and Reconfiguring Keys in SS
I looked around at length and eventually found that the keys seem to be hard-coded in the video_sdl2.cpp file, when making a SDL2 Linux build. It took a while but I tweaked them until they started to produce the proper results. The process will probably vary depending on the details of your system, ...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
It should be Screamer for both, since that's the main build I use and care much about. The general performance is visually more sluggish with the motion on the screen being more choppy than I recall in OS X. Also, there's some benchmarks with Speedometer below. "Qemu 9.1" is the tested per...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
Hi, The screamer source code is at: https://github.com/mcayland/qemu/tree/screamer I build on Linux regularly, but the sound performance is no better there. Do you have any tips for improving Linux performance? I made a build from that source on Ubuntu 18.10 and the speed is pretty atrocious compar...

Ubuntu Xmodmap and Reconfiguring Keys in SS
In Ubuntu 18.10, I have the ctrl and command ("super") keys switched up to roughly simulate the standard Mac setup. That works fine for Ubuntu, but in SheepShaver, the modifier keys are all jumbled up -- the option/alt key on my keyboard triggers command, the ctrl key triggers option, and ...

Accessing Real Partitions
I could ask this about Qemu or SheepShaver separately, but figured I'd hit on the whole range here. Since Qemu can be set up to access a physical CD, could it hypothetically be configured to read/write to a genuine HFS/HFS+ partition? Whether it can or can't, do any of the other emulators have that ...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
Do the IX3D, ATI or nVidia extensions available with 9.2.2 do anything noteworthy in QEMU or can they be deactivated without consequence? I'm not certain how QEMU handles virtualized video; I have an ATI Radeon HD 4870 in my real machine, but I doubt that OS 9 would know how to do anything productiv...

Re: Screamer, 9.2.2 & Adventures with Sound
I didn't at that time, just the stock stuff that came with 9.2.1/9.2.2, so QuickTime 5. However, I've installed both on another 9.2.2 system folder. Sound in general does seem to work better with that setup. It's still a bit out of sorts for Star Patrol, though, which is a shame since that's current...

Screamer, 9.2.2 & Adventures with Sound
After managing to get sound running well in 9.1, but noticing that NetBoot's version of 9.2.2 seemed faster and benchmarked better, and learning that 9.2.2 contains less/no 68k-native code (for less emulation), I figured I would try the upgrade out. For the most part, it seemed to work fine, but it ...

Re: QEMU Mac OS 9 and X Software Compatibility List
A few brief experiments in 9.1 (I haven't tried 9.2.2 yet) with the current screamer build, 26062018. Some are stock and some use the 256 VGA driver (apparently 256 is needed for a lot of old games). Color legend: Purple not only doesn't work but crashes the virtual system. Red doesn't work at all -...

PPC Version Differences
I recently found my old Mac OS 8.1 system disc, thus, along with my other 9 disc, giving me access to 8.1-8.6, and 9.1-9.2.2. I was curious as to whether anyone has tried a variety of these with SheepShaver and Qemu and if they've noticed practical differences. Even in actual Mac hardware there's so...

Re: Making a Workable System ISO
Grats to me for remembering the other versions and things but forgetting maybe the most important part! The disc I have handy is for 9.1. I followed the advice and general procedure you recommended, using the different version of Qemu and the steps you recommended, and it worked well. You have my gr...

Making a Workable System ISO
I've been trying in vain to set up Qemu for the past few days -- an extremely painful experience riddled with 'no valid state's, indefinite hanging on 'trying hd:suchandsuch', and for a few magical moments, getting as far as the Blinking Floppy of Doom. Finally, something snapped and I picked up one...

Re: Interesting idea for a Virtual Machine....
This pretty well answers the question I was planning on asking here, whether there were any projects to make an open-source clone of the Classic Mac OS, similar in scope to the Haiku or ReactOS projects. As an unashamed fanboy of the classic Macintosh philosophy, mindset and architecture, it seemed ...

Re: SheepShaver constantly freezes running 'Ares'
The standard 1.2.0. I have a copy of the later, unreleased 1.2.1, but since that only improved Classic compatibility (at the expense of native performance, if I remember right), I didn't think it would be useful. I tried it on Basi as well, when I first saw how badly SheepShaver was doing. Basilisk ...

Re: SheepShaver constantly freezes running 'Ares'
Thought I would give an update. I'm trying it with an Old World ROM. Probably 2/3rds of the time SheepShaver goes into a deep freeze upon loading the game (before the Ambrosia logo screen comes up). If it loads it, then the game will function as intended, except it will freeze about half of the time...

Re: SheepShaver constantly freezes running 'Ares'
Here's the reply I got from him: I am using a mbp i7 2.3Ghz, 16GB RAM, SSD, running 10.6.6. I was running Chubby bunny out of the box unmodified from a RAM disk. I have also run the same set up using 10.9.1 without issues. For comparison, I have a iMac 8,1 with Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66, 2GB RAM, and a ...

Re: SheepShaver constantly freezes running 'Ares'
It seems that it was already set to 32-bit (unless I did it before and simply forgot). I will say that I tried COI to see if I could get the same results that he apparently did. There are apparently three different versions of it, the original one (which he uses), and two updates, "4.0.1-2.1&qu...

Re: SheepShaver constantly freezes running 'Ares'
Done, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to have much of an effect.
Basilisk II seems to be able to run it very well, for the most part. Unfortunately network play doesn't seem to work with Basi, at least not out of the box.

SheepShaver constantly freezes running 'Ares'
I'm using the recommended build of SheepShaver on Mavericks. The emulated OS is 8.6. I picked up SheepShaver to help me run old Mac games. For the most part, it's done an adequate job, but it seems to be stymied at Ambrosia Software's "Ares". The game starts up okay, but SheepShaver freeze...
