Re: Al Evans Passed Away
I searched when I posted my Twitter thread and couldn't find anything, although it's possible that something has been published since then. But his family posted this lovely mini-obituary on Facebook that talks a bit about his life. Beyond that, there's also some info (and photos!) in the Austin Ame...

Re: Al Evans Passed Away
For posterity (and more easily finding said remembrances), here's the specific Twitter thread I created: https://twitter.com/MossRC/status/1554662299222568960 Several people replied or quote-tweeted with their memories of Al and/or Cap'n Magneto, a couple of highlights being Glenda Adams reminiscing...

Re: Secret History of Mac Gaming Expanded Edition
Possibly. I'm just days (or even hours) from welcoming my first child into the world, but I might be able to set something up with him after I'm settled into parent life — assuming he's up for it.

Re: Macintosh game search ?!
Can you describe it at all, beyond the fact that it was a black-and-white puzzle game? Maybe you remember some specific moments or characters in the game? Or something about the style of its play (puzzle games come in many different shapes and sizes!).

Re: MacAction Magazine
From what I can gather it was both short-lived and sorely-limited in its distribution. I found out about it around 18 months ago and have yet to find a copy. When I finish writing my current book (which will be soon), I plan to ramp up my efforts — both using my public reach (it's much easier to res...

Re: Shareware Heroes Book
Thanks ClockWise! Always appreciate the signal boost. And at 80% funded in a week, I'm delighted to say that it looks like the Kickstarter will comfortably hit its goal — which is a great relief after the struggles we had with funding on Unbound. It also means that pretty soon I can stop worrying ab...

Re: Escape Velocity Override Remaster KickStarter
A Maelstrom remake in the new engine would be very cool, but I'd be surprised if they did it officially — likely more of a fan mod project. I talked to Peter after they launched the project. He's really passionate about getting this remaster done and, hopefully, moving on to the sequel he'd planned ...

Re: Old School Macintosh Shooters
Thanks guys. That was a fun article to write. (I've been learning a lot more lately about a few of the games mentioned in there, too, for a certain new project I'm working on. *hint* *hint*) The joy of having my work in a print+digital magazine again was offset somewhat by the disappointment of Old ...

Re: Ares 20th Anniv. Livestream
Wow... this brings back memories. Ares was right at the end of my Ambrosia gaming experience; I fired it up, but never fully got into it before life took me elsewhere. I guess we're too late for an Avara livestream? I'd love to see some of the Avara masters have a go at it again with moonjumps and ...

Re: SheepShaver: Power Pete runs fast!!
Also, regarding the name change, Mighty Mike was actually the title during development -- MacPlay changed it before release and Brian Greenstone never much liked their decision to go with Power Pete, so he was more than happy to change it on the shareware version when the opportunity presented itsel...

I talked to the dev Lucas Pope about the game a few years back for a Gamasutra article: http://gamasutra.com/view/news/260368/Lucas_Pope_and_the_rise_of_the_1bit_ditherpunk_aesthetic.php Met him at PAX Australia last year, too, and had a nice chat. He's a big fan of the early Mac games era. And we b...

Re: The Manhole livestream with Robyn Miller
Maybe. I already know where to find Lauren Elliott (co-creator of Carmen Sandiego, worked on Shufflepuck Café and many other games) — he's working with Will Wright on a new thing . Doug Carlston is apparently still fairly accessible, too. Beyond that, I'm not sure. But probably some of the other peo...

The Manhole livestream with Robyn Miller
I'm doing another history of Mac gaming livestream next week. This time I'll have Robyn Miller joining me to talk about Cyan's first game, The Manhole, in celebration of its 30th anniversary. We may talk about some other stuff, too, like Cyan's other games and HyperCard and the early Mac in general....

I think I'll be doing a livestream sometime soon with Charlie Jackson and Eric Zocher in which we talk about Dark Castle and the Silicon Beach days. It was going to be last month, but I got sidetracked with other stuff. There are also excerpts on Ars Technica (the Pippin chapter): https://arstechnic...

108 uniques, apparently, which is better than I expected. Total views was 168, so some probably left for a bit and came back. 18 people participated in the chat. Average viewer count across the duration was also 18, with a peak of 26 about half an hour in (and again about one hour in). And there wer...

Thanks for helping spread the word, guys. I'll definitely announce the next ...

Makes me happy to have known Mossy when he was still just a spore :D This book really is a great snapshot of a special history, and worth the read. Heh, I have fond memories of the late-90s/early-2000s heyday of emulation on the Mac, and of excitedly discovering emulation.net and Mac.EmuScene/MacSc...

looks super cool! Just one question, what is that Author's shed one would get access to? It's Unbound's equivalent to Kickstarter updates. The Secret History of Mac Gaming book
My side project of the past two years: https://unbound.co.uk/books/macgaming It's a narrative-style history of Mac gaming, full of stories about the people, communities, and ideas behind the Mac games of the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s. If you've enjoyed my feature articles on MacScene, Ars, and elsew...

Another classic Mac games has finally made its way onto iOS, and from the original developers no less. https://itunes.apple.com/app/fa-18-hornet-combat-jet-flight/id971855056?mt=8 I've only played through a couple of the tutorials at this point, but it seems to be a pretty solid update to the old Ma...

After a solid decade of lurking I figured it was about time I signed up. I'm writing all over the place these days.
