Re: Qemu-system-m68k-Win64 to run Mac OS 7-8 / AUX3.x / NetBSD
Actually, I just realized: System 7.0 should run natively on the current emulated Quadra... as long as you install https://www.aux-penelope.com/jagubox/AA.new_files/enabler.img.hqx in the Extensions folder. Has anyone tried this yet? It's been years since I last used this account, so hello again! I...

Re: Guide on Installing DP1?
Welp, so I tried out the QEMU 4.0 build with the DP1 installer and the Mac OS X Server 1.2v3 CD, using Cat_7's command line. Sadly I don't seem to be making any progress on this front, as setup still stalls for me while looking for the UFS partition.

Re: Guide on Installing DP1?
1.0.x won't work because OpenBIOS can't read the firmware PE it presents. However, it was my understanding that DP1 was more forgiving, and you just needed to boot from the bootloader CD that works for 1.2v3, and it would find the OS on the UFS partition itself. Ah, I see now. Thanks a lot dude, I'...

Re: Guide on Installing DP1?
Does this help you to install server 1.2v3? https://wiki.qemu.org/Documentation/Platforms/PowerPC#Mac_OS_X_Server_1.2v3 Best, Cat_7 Yup, thing is that I can't install any older versions of Server (ie. 1.0.x), nor can I install DP1. They all stall when looking for partitions to install to no matter ...

Re: Guide on Installing DP1?
I've got a problem here. While I can manage to format the target disk using Mac OS 9, I can't seem to run the OS X installer till completion. Instead, the installer seems to stall when looking for partitions, like this: https://i.imgur.com/p7hjgRH.png I've initialized my disk as "Mac OS Server ...

Re: QEMU doesn't show HDD's in Macos 10.1
It looks like you downloaded one of the betas of 10.1, of which there are several leaked. Judging by your description of the broken Disk Utility, it seems that you have downloaded build 5D15, one of the earliest seeds IIRC. The GM's build number is 5G64, and it should also be on WinWorld. Good luck ...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
No, not natively. However, as said earlier, you can get 8.6 running via Blue Box (though it is very slow) when you install Mac OS X Server 1.2v3.

I think I used 16 bits for that, actually. Try using that as well and see if both OS X and OS 8 work.

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
Yup, it's the May 4 experimental Windows build, using the mac99 model and pm3,1 openbios. Hope it gets resolved, this is pretty interesting stuff. :PCat_7 wrote:Is this with the PMU enable build, using machine model mac99?
If so, then that initialization issue has not yet been resolved.
Best,

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
I was bored, so I threw every machine-specific version the Sawtooth G4 had at the Windows build with the experimental OpenBIOS. I first tried directly booting from CD, then booting into an OS 9.0.4 image and installing the Sawtooth versions onto a clean HDD. Here are my results: * 8.6/9.0 don't boot...

I find that holding the mouse buttons while moving the cursor makes it a bit less jumpy (but still very annoying to use), so try that out.
Thanks for the screen depth tip! Blue Box now works perfectly, so now you can run Mac OS 8.6 in QEMU

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
I can see the boot animation playing a couple of seconds, before it stalls. QEMU is still running fine, but boot does not progress beyond this point (I left it open for 20 minutes just to check). For the record, I tried booting it in single-user mode after this, but it stalls at the same point. Tha...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
*snip* So I tried this with the original 1.2, not 1.2v3, since that's all i have access to right now. I also used a QCOW2 image instead of VMDK. First off, the included OS 9 on the 1.2 CD didn't boot in either QEMU version, so I just booted off a 9.2.1 CD and did the OS X partitioning from there. I...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
For those who are curious: Mac OS X 10.0-10.1 (and maybe 10.2 and later, haven't tested those yet) work perfectly with qcow2 images. For example, here is the command I use to boot Mac OS X 10.0.3 (Installed using a 2Z CD) from a qcow2 image: qemu-system-ppc-wip -bios openbios-qemu-wip.elf -L pc-bios...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
In the latest Windows/SDL build of QEMU, there doesn't seem to be any parameter to send the command key in the monitor when using sendkey. I also messed around with the keymaps, but no dice there either. I'll probably use a virtual keyboard program for OS 9/OS X (if it exists) as a workaround for th...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
This is a stupid question here, but what is the command key mapped to on Windows? I've been messing around, and have been unable to find the equivalent keymapping. Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
The Cat7 builds seem to be the most up-to-date, as they have Ben's video drivers and have SunGem support. There are a couple of PPC fixes here and there too, though there are also quite a few patches that have yet to be included in either the main branch or Ben's branch (like a fix that gets rid of...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
That's much the same as mine, except I used 1G ram and the openbios-qemu-wip bios. Maybe try that and see? I did find the Windows version a lot buggier. Especially with disk handling. Which is why I stick with the OS X build. OK, I'll try that. BTW, my only Mac is an iBook G4 which only supports 10...
