Re: New System 7 setup on OSx Catalina
This is the reply for KnuddlMac's PM. My fork is based on cebix/macemu. Because dsumorok/macemu was not merged into cebix/macemu, my fork does not support etherhelper. The official tuntaposx will not work under macOS10.14.5+ because it is not notarized. If you can get the tuntaposx which works unde...

Re: macOS Big Sur and SS over ETH?
OUCH!!! To my surprise I did install an older version of SheepShaver (~October 2020) and here it works like a charm. - Also AppleTalk connections. 230713 doesn't seem to support the Etherhelper anymore? What's the alternative upgrade path to get AppleTalk and Ethernet working? I've seen that Tunnelb...

Re: macOS Big Sur and SS over ETH?
Update: Basilisk is back in the net with his apple shares attached via AppleTalk.
Network entry: etherhelper/en0
But SheepShaver is still disconnected. - Any ideas & suggestions appreciated. J

macOS Big Sur and SS over ETH?
Dear SheepShaver herders, Due to a faster & much bigger SSD I did set-up my machine with a new system (macOS Big Sur). Right now, I can't get the ethernet part working anymore, which really was the sweetest spot with this machine here. Basilisk and SheepShaver are both blocked. Not even ordinary...

Re: A standalone System 7.6.1 setup using BasiliskII
Uoops! - I just took an older Debian and installed atalk. But Apple Networking needs to be enabled, when Kernel gets compiled. That's it. - You are right, the VM from MacIP would be too heavy. Thanks for the link! If I find time, I'll check the bytes to see if there is something new to explore. Appl...

Re: A standalone System 7.6.1 setup using BasiliskII
Solved it, the download got corrupted and on the other machine, I could experience Sheepshaver finally stand-alone! I did just notice, that web access and AppleTalk don't work. I couldn't find my Apple Shares or SE30 nor iCab did show any content. A couple of years ago, I did work with Kanjatalk on ...

Re: A standalone System 7.6.1 setup using BasiliskII
 I keep the crash report safely on my disk until someone yells for it. I'll try the OS9 download again on a MBpro late 13 (Intel) with Catalina 10.15.7 . The initial machine, which failed launching the standalone app, was latest Intel MBP running Big Sur. My servers are all ARM, but I don't h...

Re: A standalone System 7.6.1 setup using BasiliskII
FYI: System761 all OK. But 'Mac OS 9' launches with a crash report. Did download again, but still crashing. However, I can start with options button pressed. Changing options and continue will crash App again. I prevent from posting the crash report details. - Too much spam, let me know if someone n...

Re: A standalone System 7.6.1 setup using BasiliskII
Yum,yum! - I haven't been around for a while and now I found these delicious bytes. Now of course my question: Can I connect to my Apple Network through Ethernet? The Chooser is inside the Apple Menu, but I can't select my AppleShare. Ethernet settings are already correct and AppleTalk is ON. Can th...

Re: New System 7 setup on OSx Catalina
Hey mabam, you made my day! It is good to know, that sometimes invested 'System 7 time' is being spent in a useful way. - Right now, I can't simply grab my Xcode and compile something. But let's continue the discussion here and see, if there are possibilities with input from putrzop, adespoton and o...

Re: Server mode Ethernet in Basillisk II not working
That's cute! What IDE (maybe Code Warrior?) are you using for programming on Mac OS 8.0? I've been using both "Code Warrior 8" and "Symantec C++ 7" for my recent experiments, as I have a lot of sample code to start with from when I was a developer back in the 90s. I recently use...

Re: New System 7 setup on OSx Catalina
I've had that same thought myself, but not the time to do it. That‘s also my problem. Last time I did invest my time into BA II connectivity, feedback was low. I was questioning, if anyone still makes use of the AppleTalk Ethernet connection. I stopped all my Motorola 68k Hardware renovation projec...

Re: BasiliskII on headless Mac
Thank you very much for mentioning! - I have the same setup, I had the same problem and ended up using SheepShaver. My Mac mini is headless, which means that no monitor is connected to it.
Now I know why Basilisk II didn't work w/o a monitor connected.
Thumbs up!

Re: Server mode Ethernet in Basillisk II not working
I was trying to do some MacTCP server development under Basillisk II using Mac OS 8.0 on a Window 10 host That's cute! What IDE (maybe Code Warrior?) are you using for programming on Mac OS 8.0? I got stuck with System 7 and mostly use THINK C 7. Basilisk's Ethernet support is a fantastic feature, ...

Re: Web browser and Email Client for Basilisk II
I couldn't believe, that the @ symbol is missing and you are right. Checking the keyboard menu under the apple logo did help: <alt>+<shift>+1 Now I could create my mail for john@appleseed. But I couldn't configure MS Outlook Express to send mails. Receiving mails works like a charm, but SMTP setting...

Thanks Ronald, for merging this topic into its own fork! @Janne: You are right, there are a bunch of parameters in the OS7 GUI, that need to be set up. Re: AppleTalk over Ethernet and use of etherhelper
Thank you for your research! Until Catalina came up, installing TAP devices was possible using TUNTAPOSX. Then things became more difficult with notarization (I think). Here we used special Tunnelblick builds creating us a TAP device. With Monterey (at least so far) I was able to create TAP devices,...

Re: AppleTalk over Ethernet and use of etherhelper
You have a PM waiting. To sumarize results: 1st: No TAP device gets listed in subdirectory /dev 2nd: ifconfig shows no TAP file and I didn't ask for it anyhow as my port settings are just: etherhelper/en6 One additional note: I was successful installing the same BA Folder on an Adobe dedicated multi...

Re: AppleTalk over Ethernet and use of etherhelper
@Ronald: Yes, I felt that maybe existing functionality got lost over time.
About the TAP device. - If it doesn't get listed by 'kextstat', is there any other possibility to test for such device functionality?
I'll see if I can find other Macs for testing.

Re: AppleTalk over Ethernet and use of etherhelper
Yes, without tap device is really strange. - Could it reuse some elements from another device package? However, this code runs on two different machines with AppleTalk over Ethernet support. There is one project that I recall was around that time: BasiliskII/macemu-master 2020-03-09 Kopie/BasiliskII...

Re: AppleTalk over Ethernet and use of etherhelper
You're right, my discussion did fade off a bit. As per your request, I did test both notarized versions last night and did comment in my reply from: Tue Nov 23, 2021 9:50 am Both versions did 'survive' speedometer tests and I could close both systems w/o interference. I'd state they work running a S...

Re: AppleTalk over Ethernet and use of etherhelper
This is the version, that runs without installed TUNTAPOSX kernel extensions. Port settings to be applied are in my case (adapter dependent) 'etherhelper/en0'. http://www.sealog.de/Mac/BasiliskII_network_OK_without_tap.zip On a MBP late 2013 13" network access also works via WiFi, but on a MBP ...

Re: Get networking between machines working
Just briefly before I‘ll go to bed: "Cannot open /dev/tap0 0 (Permission denied). Ethernet will be not available." All commands need to be issued using „sudo“. Maybe this helps. In addition, I did notice that I have older BAII clients that work with AppleTalk over Ethernet and new clients ...
