Re: Running Opening Night (game) With SheepShaver Wrapper

It's hard to imagine what's causing this. I just downloaded the game, added it to the SheepShaver Wrapper via the Preferences; restarted the SheepShaver Wrapper; installed the game to a folder inside "Macintosh HD"; restarted the SheepShaver Wrapper, and it's working perfectly. As Ronald ...

Running Opening Night (game) With SheepShaver Wrapper

I'm running Mas OS 9 through a SheepShaver Wrapper (from here: http://www.columbia.edu/~em36/sheepshaverwrapper.html) on an iMac running Sierra (10.21.6). Major thanks to emendelson for helping me set it up, by the way! :-) I'm still figuring out how it works and trying out different things. I've do...

Re: Problems Running an Old Game in Mac OS 9 Through SheepSh

Thanks for clarifying that. I tried dropping the ROM and installer in and it still failed. I'm sure it's my fault and not Sheep Shaver's at all. Probably I just haven't found a good installer yet. I don't know if these are okay: http://www.macfixer.com/vintage-software/ I used the OS 9.0 one as eme...

Re: Problems Running an Old Game in Mac OS 9 Through SheepSh

Those instructions are for vanilla SheepShaver -- that's the app whose subforums you were originally in when asking your question. The wrapper automates setting up SheepShaver by doing some of the steps for you, so that instead of following that page of instructions, you just drop a ROM and an inst...

Re: Problems Running an Old Game in Mac OS 9 Through SheepSh

I apologize again for being stupid, but I'm a bit stuck. I downloaded the Wrapper, then I followed the instructions and downloaded the ROM and the OS9 img from Redundant Robot. Everything seemed to work well until the last moment. I dropped the ROM and the OS9 installer onto Sheep Shaver Wrapper an...

Re: Problems Running an Old Game in Mac OS 9 Through SheepSh

Thanks so much for explaining. I'm sorry about the confusion. You're right, I was using the app instead of the wrapper. Now I understand why nothing I did worked. My mistake. I'll try it with the actual Wrapper now. Well, I see that the AppleScript for the MacOS9 app has some code built in for addi...

Re: Problems Running an Old Game in Mac OS 9 Through SheepSh

Well, it took me a while to figure this out, but you seem to be using a disk image from one of my other systems, probably the MacOS9 app, because that's the one that has the Background Script. The SheepShaver Wrapper itself doesn't include that. Somehow or other, the MacOS9 system seems to have got...

Re: Problems Running an Old Game in Mac OS 9 Through SheepSh

I'm the person who put together the SheepShaver Wrapper. I haven't tested it on macOS High Sierra, and you may be encountering a problem that I won't be able to fix for a while. You might try this instead: http://www.columbia.edu/~em36/macos9osx.html I'll look into the SheepShaver Wrapper issue. Th...

Problems Running an Old Game in Mac OS 9 Through SheepShaver

I originally posted this question in another subforum but was advised to come here. I'm a long-time Mac user, but new to Sheep Shaver so this is a learning experience for me. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. Here are the details: 1. The game I'm trying to run is Jump Start 4th Grade Hau...

Re: Having Trouble Running an Old Game on SheepShaver

Background script error: Finder got an error: Can't get alias "Unix:SendToMacOS9" This indicates you are running the SheepShaver wrapper from this page: http://www.columbia.edu/~em36/sheepshaverwrapper.html Correct? Perhaps reinstall? Anyway, questions about such installations should go i...

Re: Having Trouble Running an Old Game on SheepShaver

Please post here the content of your prefs file: Open Terminal (in /Applications/Utilities/) Type at the prompt open ~/.sheepshaver_prefs followed by a return. The prefs file will open in your default text editor. Select all content, copy and paste it here in your reply. Edit: Do you keep the iso i...

Re: Having Trouble Running an Old Game on SheepShaver

Are you adding the iso on your host in the SheepShaver preferences and rebooting, or are you trying to open the iso through the Unix folder on the guest OS? The error sounds like the second. Thanks for you reply! No, I'm trying to add the ISO in Preferences and reboot, but I get the error message t...

Re: Having Trouble Running an Old Game on SheepShaver

I checked out Macintosh Garden and unfortunately that's a different version of the game (Sapphire Falls). I do have an ISO of Jump Start Haunted Island Maybe you didn't check Macintosh Garden thoroughly enough. Isn't this the game you want: http://macintoshgarden.org/games/jumpstart-adventures-4th-...

Re: Having Trouble Running an Old Game on SheepShaver

I do not know why your .iso file cannot be mounted the regular way. Maybe start over. Create a .cdr image from the CD-ROM using Disk Utility. Add that file to the volumes list in SheepShaver prefs. Using the Virtual DVD-ROM/CD Utility (or VirtualCD Imager, it is referred to by several names) is a n...

Re: Having Trouble Running an Old Game on SheepShaver

You do not write exactly how you tried to mount the image in SheepShaver. Any format should work, as long as it is in a read/write format. The image file should then be locked in the Sierra Finder to convince the software that it is on a (read-only) CD. Best try an image created in Disk Utility in ...

Having Trouble Running an Old Game on SheepShaver

I recently got a new iMac running Sierra. I'm trying to find a way to play an old game from the 90s that I used to love called Jump Start 4th Grade Haunted Island. I have the CD, but I no longer have the computer it ran on. It won't work with anything later than Mac OS 9. I was able to install Sheep...
