Congrats on the launch!
I'm interested in your plans for it. And I'm eager to see how it compares and improves on existing emulators (mini mac, basilidkii, mess, CLK, etc)

Re: Has Anyone Seen Paul C. Pratt Online in the Last Year?
If Mr Pratt's website goes down at some point for whatever reason that caused him to stop updating it, I can set up a mirror. I just need to find a decent enough hosting solution that's not too expensive.
I host on OCI (Oracle Cloud Infrastructure) for the grand total of $0. They do take payment ...

Re: Beta version of new Basilisk II GUI
I hope that this GUI app can be supported to consume prefs files in exactly the same way BasiliskII does.
BasiliskII for OSX/macOS does not have a built-in GUI.
I never said it does.
What BasikiskII does have is completely open source code that means prefs handling can be exactly the same in ...

Are you joking? I can't tell.
The whole point of comments is for them to be ignored!
BasiliskII has worked fine with them forever. It's never crashed reading my prefs file.
Your description of how BasiliskII reads prefs is inaccurate.

My prefs file is totally empty (but exists) = crash
I also tried running it with no prefs file (deleted my existing one) = crash
It does work with the prefs file BasiliskII generates on first run = OK
A little experiment shows that it chokes on comments:

Re: BasiliskII for iOS
I've been doing some drawing again with this setup and would really like Apple Pencil support in BasiliskII. I wonder if we could make it appear as a Wacom pen?
My workaround is to use the iPad as a secondary display to let me use the Pencil to operate BasiliskII running on my Mac. But it ...

It seems there's more to it. I don't expect to hear about those details, that's something I can understand and respect.

Come on now, there's no need to be like this.emendelson wrote: Sun Oct 22, 2023 3:54 pm In the future, I'll try to avoid posting anything that isn't fully useful to you.
I got what I needed out of your download, so I'm happy. Are you not happy too?

Re: System 7 coexisting with macOS X
I see @mabam has merged overnight.
@emendelson I appreciate the effort you've gone to, but this method of redistributing is somewhat less useful to me.
I don't want or need another "all-in-one", as it would be just another disk image to manage rather than the single disk image I use day-to-day. I ...

Re: System 7 coexisting with macOS X
I'm able to build this, but I'm still trying to figure out how to specify that the prefs file should be in the same folder with the application. Replacing "HOME" with "PWD" in prefs_sdl.cpp doesn't work at all. If anyone knows the solution to this, I'll be grateful.
I'll try my best!
You can ...

Re: System 7 coexisting with macOS X
Thanks.
It seems your build has better screen redrawing.
But I prefer the ability to keep a separate set of prefs like emendelson's build.

@emendelson any chance of a newer build of your rootless?emendelson wrote: Sat Dec 28, 2019 12:55 pm And if anyone wants to experiment with this, here's a copy built under Mojave and notarized:

Re: System 7 coexisting with macOS X
Is this still working for people?
Just tried my old build on Monterey and it's just a regular Basilisk window?
edit: maybe I had forgotten to set screen to rootless, but i'm now using emendelson build that keeps its own prefs.

Re: Latest Basilisk II for Apple Silicon
I'd like to request a newer build.
Just today a hugely important but minor change was added to BasiliskII (high resolution timer) which improve the experience of HyperCard and pretty much every HyperCard stack ever created.

Re: A standalone System 7.6.1 setup using BasiliskII
How about indirect links? For example a link to google search results, which in turn contains the link to the website in question?
And what about the version of Mac OS System 7 that Apple made available as a free download?
Just for total clarity.

Re: A standalone System 7.6.1 setup using BasiliskII
Officially it was introduced in System 7 Pro (7.1.1) but before that you could install early/beta releases.
eg. Apple Developer CD, July 1994: AppleScriptâ„¢ Setup
And one of my 1994 Magazine CD-ROMs has AppleScriptâ„¢ Setup 1.1

File System Manager Extension
I also think only for 7.1, but worth a quick try on 7.0.1 to confirm.

It's possible.
I rebuilt the latest code to my device recently, just before iOS 16 was released, using latest Xcode to iPadOS.

Re: BasiliskII for iOS
There's a separate macOS version that implements a kind of Parallels Unity feature where classic Macintosh windows live amongst modern macOS windows.
But I agree, the UI is good on the iOS app. The closest you can get right now on macOS is BasiliskII GUI config app.

In that case, the OP contains outdated information about the app (it says it runs using Rosetta2)
