can I run a 68k binary in a PPC System OS?

I can run the 68k binary of Netscape 3 in System 7.6.1 PPC. Is that normal? Is the binary a universal one?

Re: Blocky/edgy desktop on newest version

Alright! I can wait a few days, of course!

It's a great job on networking. It works flawlessly and doesn't crash the emu. That's a huge bonus! I can try so many apps with this! That's the reason I'm upgrading from the older version.

Re: Blocky/edgy desktop on newest version

Great! Two questions and a request: 1. Will it be arriving within the next 2 months? 2. The builds in this topic come from your fork of macemu? 3. Would be great if you made source release snapshots that correspond to the builds on that topic. So if I have a build that works I can also get that spec...

Blocky/edgy desktop on newest version

When I start the newest version in fullscreen I get a blocky/edgy desktop. The best way to describe is a photo: https://i.imgur.com/FaGeSHm.png Notice the desktop pattern, the text, and the window title's lines. If I do Alt+Enter twice (it'll go into window and then back again to fullscreen) or if I...

Re: is it legal to run in emulation a copy of Mac OS you own

Sorry for taking this long to respond. The project paused and I was busy with lots of stuff. We're resuming it now.

Thank you for your responses.

is it legal to run in emulation a copy of Mac OS you own?

I'm in talks with computer museum to setup an emulation kiosk that'll run as many old OSes as possible (non-Apple as well). We'll need to talking with a intellectual rights lawyer to see if we can do this in a legal manner. But just to get the basic idea, if I own the copies of each OS I'm installin...

Seems simple enough. I will be ecstatic if it gives me networking! Going to try and tell you the results. Thanks a lot!

Re: Netscape 3 under System 7.6.1 crashes BasiliskII

Internet access has been unstable for Basilisk and SheepShaver in Windows for a long time now. If you find a stable solution, please let us know. I could try a few things. I need more info. It doesn't crash under Linux and macOS? How about WinXP/2000/NT/98? Do the 68k ones from here work for you? h...

Netscape 3 under System 7.6.1 crashes BasiliskII

My goal is to run Netscape 3.x under System 7.6.1. Every Netscape 3 copy I tried (3.0, 3.0 Gold, 3.01, 3.04, etc) crashes BasiliskII. It'll open a couple of pages and then boom, crash. After the first crash, the next time I'll try to open a page it'll crash again. I have Java and JavaScript disabled...

Re: Can I slim down an OS install ISO?

I just realized I can create an image and then copy just the installers from the ISOs. Then I'll use a boot floppy to boot the machine and pick the OS version I want.

Can I slim down an OS install ISO?

Some of the ISO images I found are on the 300MB+ size and they contain a lot of software I don't want to. Is there a way to just keep the OS installation files and remove all the rest? Some of these images are bootable, and if possible I don't want to lose that. If what I'm asking is not easy or pos...

Re: Windows host: no share drives on Mac desktop

It is provided with later system versions, eventually as part the System itself. You mean it's part of the default installation of System? That's awesome! BasiliskII is a 68k Mac emulator and as such will only run up to MacOS 8.1. Oh yeah! After 8.1 it'll be a problem I'll need to solve on SheepSha...

Are there command line arguments in Windows?

Something like:

Code: Select all

BasiliskII-20-02-2015.exe --config macos71.cfg
perhaps? I can see there is a --config entry in main_windows.cpp but it's not working!

Re: Windows host: no share drives on Mac desktop

It worked! :D However it leaves .finf directories wherever I browse so created a virtual drive out of a folder in Windows by typing this in cmd: subst x: c:\temp So now when you browse drive X: it's only limited on the folder C:\TEMP. The website says it'll work ystem 7.0 through 7.1.2. What about 7...
