Oh! I forgot that OSX/PPC apps worked with OSx86. When you said classic I thought you would mean the OSX/PPC and earlier. No worries mate. Apparantly Rosetta is also being improved to include altivec emulation for the release version of OSx86. (the dev releases are only a G3 emulator). So it looks ...

PowerPC OSX apps work in OSx86 using the Rosetta emulation layer anyway

And I meant that sheepshaver doesn't run macosx, therefore, if it were to run on OSx86, then powerpc osx stuff wouldn't be usable in sheepshaver, however macos 9 and 8 stuff would. ...so then it would be a replacement for the classic environment which isn't included in OSx86. Unless SS was updated so it did support OSX.
I meant that SS would be needed on MacIntel systems as a replacement for Classic.

The MacIntel should make people want to get PPC and 68k emulators. Or would it be possible to run your 68k apps on a MacIntel without an emulator? See my post entitled the classic mac os is dead. Sheepshaver will no doubt take off in a big way on MacIntel systems as classic won't work. However my p...

It's not your fault.

I think the MacIntel thing has pushed Macintosh emulation into the background.

Ah right...I thought you meant your link could open up a can of worms! Sorry. Yes agreed. If Mac OS X is hacked or released onto ordinary hardware then it will be very interesting to see how many people take it up.

Hi, because your Macintosh is what is called an 'Old World' Macintosh, it cannot boot directly into Linux as far as I know and you will have to install Mac OS to get it to boot. I think Yellow Dog will have some good guides. I'd check the readme or soemthing similar on the CD to see if it has an ins...

Not Linux guru, but I have heard a lot of stories about problems with SheepShaver on RedHat/Fedora. It crashed for me all the time on RedHat 9 and I ended up trying Slackware Linux and it worked like a charm. I have never tried Ubuntu so I can't help you there. My only advice would be to bin Red Hat.

AFAIK, the first New World Mac was the iMac which shipped with OS 8.1, so there is no way that a new world ROM will support System 7. I have never tried Windows SheepShaver with an OldWorld ROM, so I don't know, but I certainly don't recall anyone saying it works..

I didn't ever at any point say that the developer box wasn't standard hardware...can you actually read? If you have plenty of time and effort to expend you can run the Linux version within Windows using coLinux. Not sure how nicely it works tho.

YOu can use Sheepshaver for Linux to use PowerPC apps in MacOS 8. Or maybe in Windows with an Old World ROM? I have never tried that, so I'm not sure if it would work.

How do you know? Did you install it? I read that the DRM built into it prevents it from being loaded onto anything other than the system it was shipped with.
