Re: x86 macOS relevant now?

Of course we are interested in the instructions, after all we are about mac emulation ;-) Even though I hope that the Intel machines will still be around and supported for a while. I assume these instructions are for running Qemu with Intel MacOS on a M1 machine as that would be emulation? Best, Cat_7

Re: Differences in qemu versions

Hi, Sometimes there is, sometime there isn't ;-) Depending on which features get updated in the main Qemu source code or in some developer's personal code branch I might create a new build. So sometimes there are features in a build provided here that are not yet available in the brew-based version....

Re: So, what 3D games are compatible with the new hardware acceleration feature?

Inside the emulated MacOS 9 sometimes installing opengl (if not installed already) or other drivers can convince some games to run. But there will be no real acceleration available. All graphics calculations will be done in software which is slow as emulation processor costs are high. To have real a...

Re: Sharing files between Big Sur host and 10.4

Hi, I looked into some documentation, and it appears support for the afp protocol was removed from Big Sur, so the solution you used will not work anymore. Support for afp was also removed from Catalina host when the shared folder was not on a HFS+ formatted volume. For now it seems the only solutio...

Re: Sharing files between Big Sur host and 10.4

Hi, Can you show us your command line to see how you set up the network connection? Mail will indeed not work with the old Safari browser. You might have more luck with: https://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/ Perhaps a solution can be found by running the ftp server on your 10.4 guest and to ...

That update takes a long time after you restart your "Mac". Did you give it enough time?

You don't burn the image to a DVD, you just use the image file to boot Qemu.

Re: Looking to attempt GPU passthrough - Which card to get?

I case you cannot create your own openbios, a more or less suitable openbios containing some patches to allow loading/executing a rom file is in the download here: https://surfdrive.surf.nl/files/index.php/s/pG3dNzNTyifTxIz/download It also contains a readme on how to get things going with Mac OS 9....

Re: Looking to attempt GPU passthrough - Which card to get?

That is the address where the rom file will be loaded.
You'd have to find out where yours should go.

For initial boot you do not need to install the card drivers in Mac OS. The fcode on the card will contain a basic driver.

Re: Looking to attempt GPU passthrough - Which card to get?

Hi, On a real mac you could type "boot" and openbios would then execute the boot sequence up to the point where it hands over control to the Mac OS. Part of that execution is the load the rom file (written in fcode) contained on the Apple graphics card and to populate the device tree and l...

Hi,

It seems strata studio 1.x? requires fpu emulation to function on an m68k machine.
What settings do you use for the JIT compiler and ignore illegal memory access etc?

Have you tried newer versions with SheepShaver?

Re: 2 drives issue

Hi, The last line in your command line should never end with a ^, as the command processor will try to read a next line which isn't there and will wait for it. So remove the last ^ and you should be good to go. Also take care to never have a space behind the ^ ending any but the last line. Best, Cat_7

Re: 2 drives issue

Hi,

I guess there can be two issues:
1. Your command line is not yet correct.
2. You did not yet initialise the disk with drive setup.

Hi, Yes, Qemu can access disks and cdrom drives. Insert the CD, wait for it to show up on the desktop, go to disk utlity and unmount the CD. Edit your qemu.command to run Qemu as root: sudo ./qemu-system-ppc \ and replace the current -drive line that points to your dvd installation image (if still t...

Re: How to install Tiger on QEMU?

Ah, great. .cdr or .iso only gives an indication of what the actual content of a file might be. In this case they are the same. After the installation you have to edit the qemu.command file to tell Qemu to boot from the hard disk image: change: -boot d \ to -boot c \ and start Qemu. It will not be f...

If everything would be fine, you would see a yellow-ish screen that is after a few seconds replace by the image of Tiger booting from the CD image. From that point onward you should arrive at the installer which works exactly the same as on a real machine. Did you run the "allow_qemu_to_run&quo...

Re: How to install Tiger on QEMU?

Yes it is a terminal command. Is the qemu-img program not part of your download? If so, cd to the folder in which you downloaded qemu and try again. Or use the "new terminal here" (don't know its exact name) option in the finder to go there directly. I've never tried creating a disk image ...

Re: How to install Tiger on QEMU?

Hi, There are indeed some changes needed to the commands in the guide: 1. You need to make a bigger file to be used as hard disk. Let's say 10Gb: ./qemu-img create -f raw -o size=10G Tiger.img 2. You need to have a disk image of the Tiger installation DVD. Below that image file is called Tiger.iso. ...
