I bought a $1200 x86 laptop...an Athlon 64 based one made by HP

Trust me, I kick myself everyday for not buying a new iBook (or Powerbook off eBay)

Windows and Linux have both gotten on my last nerve

the current 0.4 Pre builds are slighty quicker then older ones, but it's still far from full speed

i usually stick to very basic gui's the minimize ram and cpu usage... i run WinXP w/ the classic theme and no wallpaper...and in linux i use Windowmaker w/ it's default style but i do like the Plastik theme in KDE a screenshot i took to get people in one of my friends chat rooms w/ transparency and ...

i have noticed...not through any benchmark or anything

but linux virtual memory is ungodly slow compared to windows

not sure why...i wonder if theres a different linux swap filesystem that performs better

i just figured out how compile all my favorite linux apps and games in OS X i' grow more impressed with OS X everyday It should be just like in linux, since OSX is UNIX and XCode's core is GCC. Am I right? pretty much i've discovered "Fink" though...it's like Gentoo's emerge...but for Mac...

i got my new laptop a few days again Athlon XP-M 2800+ "K8" based (guys at AMD told me it should perform as good as an A64 2800+ does in 32 bit mode) 256mb of ram (yeah i know) NVIDIA Geforce 4 440 Go Nforce 3 based Motherboard i did both regular and sdl tests from selection of boot devic...

you can't really rely on x86 clock speeds either

especially when a 1.6ghz Athlon XP can perform like a 2.8ghz Pentium 4

i'm not worried about battery life....it will stay plugged in almost 99% anyways...i just like being able to mobe from room to room easily

as for ram...yeah...definitely need more...but to keep it cheap as possible i'll have to live with 256 for a month or 2
