Find yourself an old 500MB or 1GB hard drive and you can trick Basilisk II into thinking it is a SCSI drive. I've never tried it but some here have. I believe you need the Win32 ASPI Layer for this to work. You also need to make sure you remove all partitions from Windows so that you don't corrupt a...

For those interested in seeing how my new documentation is going.
I sent an e-mail off to join the team so hopefully the docs can be kept up to date.

Universal Documentation - SheepShaver/Basilisk
So, just as I was fine tuning documents for Basilisk, I realize that SheepShaver and Basilisk share so many commo sources that it's much better to write documentation for them both at one time. In my efforts I may end up "borrowing" some documents written by others, I'm going to try my bes...

Good release. I kinda dropped out of the installer scene a while back. But then back at that time, there wasn't as many updates as we see today so it was a dead end task. Right now I'm merging the documentation of Basilisk II and SheepShaver into one universal html document system. I'm almost comple...

It might be possible with Toast 6. I know with previous versions of Toast you could make those type of CD's but actually making a disc image of it was something different. If you compiled a disc like that you could save it as an image but only the data tracks were saved. I know because I wanted to s...

The new build is slower than the previous release. A standard install of Mac OS 9.0.4 booting on release 2.2 takes aprox 22 seconds (from happy mac till the hour glass cursur dissapears) while with 2.3 this time increases to aprox 34 seconds. No doubt it's a result of the ethernet add-on or somethin...

What ROM do you have for your SS Config? And how much RAM do you have setup? Your best bet is to do a little research on the SS Readme's as per any quirks Mac OS 8.x has and se if they suggest anything. I seem to recall at one point it was recommended to boot with extensions off. (Hold down shift ke...

The error does not lie in the ISO. If the ISO was bad in any way, it wouldn't boot at all. Whoever made that DMG did a botch job. Mac OS 8/9 Installer CD's are very sensitive, and Mac OS X is the worst place to duplicate them unless a person is using Toast. The Mac OS versions that are used on Boota...

GetROM Floppy Maker Makes grabbing a ROM from your mac really easy. This file is a windows exe that writes a flopy. When the writing is done, stick this floppy in a Mac, copy the getROM app to the Mac, run it, grab the ROM. Then format the floppy PC (or mac), copy the grabbed rom onto it and put bck...

New Basilisk II Goodies/Documentation
Well, I finally got fed up with such poor documentation files in Basilisk II that I did something about it. It's a work in progress but hopefully it will make a difference. http://www.hackuser.org/basilisk/Unfied_Documents.zip This has all html documents. No menus yet, but that's coming soon. All do...

A real Mac HD will work for sure if it's SCSI and you have a SCSI card as I have done this before. It speeds things up bigtime when emulating, especially on a SMP system. (In Basilisk II) As for IDE drives, it's hit and miss because support isn't always there. There have been reports with Basilisk I...

Here is a question: Do you have the proper Cable hooked inside your CD-ROM for analog audio? Older Mac OS systems do not use digital audio and require a standard cd-rom audio cable be hooked up to the drive. Digital audio extracts audio digitally as if the audio cd were a disc containing binary data...

If the file you are opening is supposed to be an actual application you can run, it's damaged and the Mac doesn't recognize it as such. Try re-downloading or transfering it. If it's a document, make sure the application you need to open it is installed. If it is and still gives you troubles, drop th...
