Hi, please test the following binary: <http://www.gibix.net/projects/sheepshaver/files/SheepShaver-2.3-0.20060514.1.zip> I changed the memory layout so that we could now allocate up to 1 GB of memory. The binary is also built with gcc3.4 which somewhat brings some more stability vs. the previous bui...

I think I will really release MacOS X/Intel only binaries this weekend, depending on Toshi's iMac availability. I am thusly postponing other improvements at a later stage. This should make the binaries more tested in the mean time I integrate other things that could have caused regressions and rende...

Hi, SheepShaver now works with JIT. I will try to target a new snapshot over the next weekend[*], as some more work is needed to make a real fix (I manually edited the generated code templates for now). [*] Depends on how many other features/bug-fixes (non-MacOS X/Intel related) I implement by this ...

Re: Can SheepShaver run on an OSX x86 machine?
Has anyone had more luck? The difficulty is to have the hardware. As Japan has every new technology out there before the rest of the world (France in particular), Toshi got his iMac and granted me an access to his machine. I could build Basilisk II and SheepShaver as native OSX/intel applications +...

Knowing our luck, Office 98\2000 does a MMU check before launching. I think the MMU check could be bypassed but I don't have this software. CodeWarrior 5 on it in the next couple of days though as I already have those installed on my older HDF. CodeWarrior 5.3 works since I built the Mac-side Ether...

Strange, I am testing in 64-bit mode by default. I will check. gb : I think that FC4 uses gcc 4.0. Have you done any work with that compiler in 64 bits? SheepShaver builds fine with gcc 4.0.1. It's just that I forgot to commit a file, simply cvs update -d in the Basilisk II tree, at least the Unix/...

Re: More Info...
QUESTION: Does SheepShaver have an internal limit of 4 GB for a volume? Perhaps it uses unsigned 32-bit longs as file pointers? Well, huh, there was a long standing typo, it's now fixed in CVS. ;-) Thanks for noticing it. Basilisk II had the same problem (same code). QUESTION: Is there any way (in ...

There are ways to workaround that but SheepShaver crashes later during extensions load because the Native Resource Manager is not installed. The 68k selectors were still available in their lowmem locations rather than the expected ppc variants... So, only MacOS 9.0.4 at most is supported at this time.

Unless maybe hardware activation is required for future Mac OS X versions, AFAIK, Apple was looking for BIOS engineers lately. Now, would they license and derive code from Phenix BIOS, I am unsure. I could see a full speed Mac virtual machine being created for Windows. I still have other visions fo...

I don't see where this rumor could come from either. Nowadays, Intel tends to providing JITs in software form, e.g. IA-32 EL to replace the aging and suboptimal ia32 emulator in ia64 chips. That guy probably confused the Intel's VMX extension for x86 virtualization, which is different from what IBM ...
