Re: How do I make an ISO out of a Mac game on Windows?

If all else fails, ISOBuster will probably work – but unfortunately, you'll need to register it to read from the HFS filesystem.

Re: "Carbonless Copies" by ARDI

I had the impression that Carbonless Copies amounted to something like a development service, such that those (few) who paid for a Carbonless Copy would wind up with a wholly customized and debugged version of Executor. I still think it would be neat to see the idea revived someday, and thus allow t...

If I'm not mistaken, the non-realMyst editions are supported by ScummVM now. (Riven is also supported in the nightly builds.)

Yes.
So: you put the disc in the drive, click the "Create image file from disk" option, select a destination file, and ... how do you end up with an MDX file?

Re: Floppies in .bin format?

I suppose they could be self-mounting images, in which case I don't think unar will help you. Since you have a bootable System 7 disk, try copying the .bin files to your System 7 disk, and then unpacking them with Stuffit Expander. Alternatively, since you have HFV Explorer, you should be able to co...

Re: Floppies in .bin format?

These are probably MacBinary-encoded images. You can unpack them using unar (the Windows command-line version of The Unarchiver); afterwards, everything should be able to recognize them.

Unar only supports AppleDouble and cannot create straight copies of the resource fork, so no question there.

Ah, fiddlesticks, of course it wouldn't be that easy, would it? It does appear to be part of the netatalk package, but indeed, https://packages.debian.org/jessie/netatalk turns up nothing. Searching for "macbinary" at http://rpm.pbone.net/ turns up a lot of results for netatalk, including ...

Re: Running Basilisk II on Linux without Xorg

I don't get it. How can you resolve the 256 color problem? I have lemmings but it requires 256 color. I tried set screen win/800/600/8. It doesn't work. Just to be clear: even after you get the Basilisk II settings correct, it is frequently necessary to go to the "Monitors & Sound" co...

How did you get your "Classilla" folder? I see it is distributed as a Stuffit archive. If you unpacked the archive using a Windows program, then it will probably never work.

To be clear, you have the actual disc and you're trying to make an image of it, right?

Rather than mounting it as an "mdx" (I have never heard of that before), can you not create a bin/cue image from the disc using ImgBurn?

Re: Anyone have a MacStartup.img loaded w/games to share?

I have found it time consuming to copy games over using HFVExplorer.exe then going into Basilisk II on Windows to unstuffit them and install the games. Is it really that time consuming..? If you have Basilisk II configured to access external drives, then you don't really need HFV Explorer – you can...

The BasiliskII GUI uses GTK, if I'm not mistaken. You might just need to set the GTK environment variables in that case.

What happens if you try to run the GUI executable from a command prompt window?

Crikey! OS X has been using the same HFS+ as MacOS 8.1, all this time!?

Re: Hidden Things in Mac ROMs

There are lots of lists of Apple easter eggs out there, including stuff hidden in the ROMs. (Possibly one of the more famous ones is the hidden boot disk in the Mac Classic, accessed by holding down Command+Option+X+O during startup.)

But yes, that's a new one on me.

The problem is actually more subtle than that, and it just so happens that disabling the serial ports will get the job done in certain configurations. There has been a thread about this before, along with a more definitive fix.

I think the only time I saw a Sad Mac in person was when I tried to use the startup floppy from an ancient Mac Plus (I think it was System 5) in an LC 475. I don't know what the technical details are, but at least the problem was solved just by removing the floppy and rebooting.

I can tell you that it is quite trivial to get homebrew applications running on a Wii. There are easy-to-use exploits that run right off an ordinary SD card. To emulate a classic Mac environment on a Wii, you would probably have to port one of the existing Macintosh emulators – Basilisk II, mini vMa...
