Re: Free, Non-Apple 68k MacOS Implementation(s)?

I'd like to think the lack of such a reimplementation is the major obstacle preventing heaps of classic MacOS software from being properly rereleased to new audiences. This seems like a good reason to me. I guess I am thinking along the lines of, "If I/we build it, will they come?". Not t...

Re: What about an unified Emulator?

Sounds pretty much like what Softmac tried to do, back in the day.

It doesn't strike me as very useful, personally – PearPC in particular has specific uses that are entirely unrelated to anything you might do with mini vMac, Basilisk, or SheepShaver.

Re: Free, Non-Apple 68k MacOS Implementation(s)?

I like the idea of using HFVExplorer instead of trying to re-implement the Finder, but alas, the source code for HFVExplorer has yet to emerge. (As per http://emaculation.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=9071 , even mini vMac will work without a Finder.) But then, I suppose replacing the Finder is ...

A quick Google suggests there is something called the Smacker Carbon Player. Maybe installing that is worth a try?

Otherwise my inclination would be to try reinstalling Quicktime.

Lastly, I downloaded the Direct X June 2010 Runtime update, extracted it, and ran Direct X "Setup" inside the extracted folder. Some will say, "But Windows 10 has DirectX12...it should be compatible with Direct X 9 already,"....nope....It was a partial compatibility media packag...

Re: Opening and saving files for Photoshop 0.63

TIFF has undergone a lot of revisions over the years and it's possible that a TIFF created with modern software will be incompatible with such an old program. PICT can also be tricky since PICT files use a resource fork – if you are trying to somehow copy a PICT file from a Windows machine, the reso...

The Apple II BASIC was licensed from Microsoft. When it came to the Macintosh, some interesting shenanigans ensued. https://www.folklore.org/StoryView.py?story=MacBasic.txt as a condition for agreeing to renew Applesoft, [Bill Gates] demanded that Apple abandon MacBasic, buying it from Apple for the...

Re: Intel vs QEMU: will we ever be able to emulate Intel Mac

Patent protection ends after twenty years, maximum, with no particularly straightforward means of renewal.

Ergo, Intel cannot use patent protection to prevent emulation forever.

(Whoops, this is a rather old topic, isn't it?)

I tried changing the file's type via HFVExplorer (I changed it to APPL), but that just created a new error message: Where did you get that idea..? Changing a file's type to APPL would only make sense if a file lost its Type/Creator information, but any application that has lost its Type/Creator inf...

What were the biggest obstacles in getting it to work again? I figured that its dependencies on ancient, outdated libraries had something to do with it.

I would think that the Frotz interpreter would be easily ported to System 6 – but then, getting anything compiled for System 6 these days seems like an arduous task. So does Bochs, but it's not in the official binaries. The relevant patch is derived from DOSBox; perhaps whatever changes were made there would be useful here?

Re: OS9 System folder space... and the Trash

The reason the Unix/shared folder is a problem here is that it doesn't fully support resource forks other than for copying. So you can open/save data files to it with no issues, but if you try opening/saving a file with a resource fork, you're going to run into problems. Doesn't that just create a ...

Re: Fusion in Dosbox SVN Daum

The latest SVN Daum is widely acknowledged to be somewhat defective. Unless you need any of the special features of the Daum version, you might be better off with a standard SVN build; if you do need those features, you should use a slightly older version of the SVN Daum build.

Just to add in i have Gtk# 2.12 aswell. The question remains: why do you have it? Clearly the problem is that the programs are trying to use Gtk# and not the version from the wiki. Why do you have GTKSharp? That is definitely not the "recommended version for emulators".

You should use the version linked from http://emaculation.com/doku.php/basilisk_ii_setup . It is substantially older than the current version.

Any interest in preserving ancient Mac floppy readers?

Back in the day, I can recall that there used to be a couple of programs floating around for reading Macintosh 1.44 MB floppy disks on PCs. There's hardly any need for such things anymore, of course; HFV Explorer works perfectly well, and there's even Executor in a pinch if you don't want to use Mac...

It seems to me you should ask your question on an Anaconda forum. I imagine there ought to be an appropriate option for the relevant Linux tools, at least. Before Mac OS X, the Macintosh operating system was not Unix-based and did not have a "terminal".

If by "Mac users" you mean you are targeting users of Mac OS X, then SheepShaver will not help you.

Re: How do I make an ISO out of a Mac game on Windows?

Which version of MacOS are you running in BII?

I understand that there's a bootable MacOS image going around that only contains a rather minimal MacOS installation and may be lacking the appropriate drivers for CD-ROM access.
