Drag the applications from the shared folder to a folder on the SheepShaver disk image and see whether they work when run from the SheepShaver disk image.

Hmm... Since you have a copy of Excel for the Mac, perhaps you might simply try to use it in Basilisk II. That seems the most obvious solution.

Any version up to 4.2.1 should work without the slightest difficulty whatever.

You've omitted by far most important part of question: exactly which application (name, version number) are you running in Basilisk II, and exactly HOW is the data formatted in that application (spreadsheet column, word-processor table column, some other way)? It's easy to to copy/paste a column of ...

Microware's OS-9, unfortunately, is a completely different OS from Apple's Mac OS 9. See this page for the explanation:

Open the SheepShaver Preferences from the topline menu. Go to the Miscellaneous tab. Add a checkmark to Use raw keycodes. In the blank field next to Use raw keycodes, enter "keycodes.sdl" if that file is in the same folder with the SheepShaver application; otherwise, enter the full path. I...

I've updated this script to add better error-checking. It now warns when a disk image listed in the prefs file can't be found, and has other minor improvements. Same filename as in the first message in the thread.

This sounds like a bug in OS X - and you're right: I'm amazed at it! (And I got exactly the same results when I tried it - with Nederlands at the top of the list of preferred languages, the red button appeared.) What happens if you save the script as an "Application Bundle" instead of an &...

I'm completely puzzled by that red close button on the dialog in your system. It should NOT be there. Go to Google and perform an Image search for "applescript 'choose from list'" - all the dialog boxes that display that command have no red button, in fact no buttons at all. For example ht...

Tried the script on my PowerBook G4 with Tiger 10.4.11 and got:

I *think* I know what that's about. Will look into it. Thanks for the report!

This is very strange. I have an almost-new white MacBook, with a new installation of 10.5.5. I don't see the red button that you have on your system. I set up a new account on my machine, switched to it, and ran the script - again, no red button! (I did find, however, that my script doesn't correctl...

I know what it is - but it absolutely never appears when I run the script. There are either no buttons at all, or a green button only on the menus where you select a file. Could you post a screen shot? Do you have any special modifications to OS X? Here's what I see: http://www.columbia.edu/~em36/No...

That's VERY helpful - thank you! dd is on my Mac too, but I've got the developer tools installed. I think it should be on all Macs, however, as it's in /bin, which I think is the same on all Macs. Will check on this. I'll replace the hdiutil command in my script with dd after I do a bit of testing. ...

Thanks for that testing. Quick comments: 1. Something must be wrong with my logic if you are not seeing a way to save changes. What it tries to do is this: After you make changes, an option "Write changes etc." appears on the main menu, under "Add a disk", "Create a disk ima...

Menu-style OS X disk image chooser for Basilisk II

One of the frustrations of using Basilisk II under OS X is the barebones GUI for setting preferences. It works well enough for most options, but it doesn't make it easy to select and manage disk image files. (I'm referring to the ports of the main development line of Basilisk II, not Nigel Pearson's...

This may not be relevant, but your original message is somewhat confusing. You seem to be saying that you used Basilisk II to set up a disk image that runs OS 8.5. But that is impossible. Basilisk II only supports System 7 through OS 8.1. All later versions require a PowerPC processor. I don't think...

One solution for the original poster might be to use Basilisk II, because Folio Views is old enough to work on a 68K Mac. My experience is that Ronald's Basilisk II build is highly stable running System 7.5.5 or 7.6.1, and certainly much faster than SheepShaver.

One quick suggestion for any future build:

In the current build, the keyboard shortcuts on the BasiliskII menu do not work (at least not for me):

Cmd-Q does not quit
Cmd-H does not hide

(although, for some reason Cmd-Option-H does "hide others")

Thanks!

Request: Basilisk II prefs for OS X (like SheepShaver one)?

This is a request to Myrd and MetalSnake, who wrote and modified that superb Mac OS port of the SheepShaverPrefs application. Is there any chance you could adapt that application for use with Basilisk II? I tried using a resource editor to modify the strings in your program so that ".sheepshave...
