Re: Installation System 7.5.3 with Mini vMac

If I recall correctly, the default build of Mini vMac has 6 virtual floppy drives; you can limit that to one or two in the build options, or ramp it right up to 32.

Re: Why QEMU the slowest emulator in the world?

Why QEMU the slowest emulator in the world? You know them all? ;-) There is not much you can do. Qemu aims to be accurate, and so you can run almost every program that fits within its limitations. The ppc emulation cannot make use of the acceleration available when the host uses the same architectu...

Re: Mac OS 10.6.8 -?

10.6.8 won't install by default under VMWare Fusion (which is now free for personal use), but it will install under VirtualBox. However, 10.6.8 Server will install under VMWare Fusion, and 10.6.8 just needs /System/Library/CoreServices/ServerVersion.plist to exist for VMWare Fusion to boot (you can ...

Re: 32-bit mode

Whenever I install Mode32 and enable 32-bit addressing under Mini vMac II and restart, it just quits. If I then remove Mode32, it still does the same thing. Tattletech claims it emulates a 68851 MMU, so I don't know why it would cause it to crash. Each time this happens, I have to reinstall System ...

Good evening, thanks for your answer ! I solved the problem by booting first with the System 7.0 boot floppy then I inserted my blank HDD file & finally the first disk of the Mac OS 7.5.3 installation. The System 7.0 boot floppy is requested very frequently & the installation takes more tha...

Periodic update on this Proof of Concept. During the past months there have been lot of updates on color QuickDraw and TextEdit compatibility + other fixes. Some more advanced games such as Marathon are now fully working excluding audio which needs the SoundManager. In hardware support no updates o...

Re: Commands line ?

You'd probably be better off with SheepShaver than with Basilisk II; BII runs System 7.0 through 8.1; SheepShaver runs 7.5.2 through 9.0.4. Since the PowerPC emulation includes embedded 68k emulation, most of the software that will run in BII will also run in SheepShaver, plus all the PowerPC softwa...

One other thing: if the game required an installer, it may have installed an older version of QuickTime or some new system extensions / control panels in the System Folder. These would have loaded when you started back up. Use Extensions Manager to change the extensions to the system default, shut d...

Re: Running 68020 software on 68000 ? 020 emu control panel?

CFM-68k is not compatible AFAIK. The instructions the software is using were implemented for 68020 processors and later to provide external library support via ObjectSupportLib, which uses CFM-68k to load it. So from the compiler side, you've got a toolchain targeted all the way from RB through to t...

Re: afpfs-ng-OSX – connect to Classic MacOS via AFP2

Sort of a side note, but I just thought of another potential FUSE project: implementing AppleShare IP so that people can mount an AppleShare 2 file share as a virtual disk on modern OSes. The back end's already done, after all. And at some point, I want to get back to MFS and HFS and get them workin...

I've just installed the latest 5.2 experimental build of QEMU. It appears that "-rtc base=localtime" no longer works. Is there an equivalent parameter that will allow the guest MacOS 9.2.2 virtual machine to show the correct time? You might want to file a bug report -- the changelog doesn...

Hi yannis, Nice to see some interest in this project after three years. I have to admit that I didn’t use afpfs-ng-OSX for quite a while, though. That is, I never installed it on my present Catalina machine. Also, I have never uploaded the macbinary conversion stuff to github as I didn’t continue t...

Re: Qemu package and guide for OSX available

It doesn't have to be os9.2, it's ok and 9.04. It's about that, qemu is much more stable on Linux and requiring less resources than SheepShaver, so I wanted to try it on OSX. Surely there is a way to compile the thing on the old osx as well. I just wanted to not reveal what I had already seen. Than...

Re: Sheepshaver for Intel OSX to replace VMs

Personally, I'm anticipating QEMU becoming the environment for running just about any software before long; it can use virtualization if using the existing host architecture, or use an emulator core for any of the hardware that isn't physically available. Of course, QEMU-M68k doesn't fully support ...

BII also has a built-in debugger that should do what you want; you just have to compile it with cxmon (the monitor/debugger) enabled.

(Incidentally, Microsoft have already developed a Rosetta 2-like emulator for x86 to run within their own ARM system, so even now Windows 10 for ARM will install in M1 via a Parallels VM.) There is already a build of QEMU-AA64 that virtualizes Windows 10 for ARM on top of Big Sur on an M1. Supposed...
