Re: Preferences manager for OSX

This sounds terrific. I'm sorry to report that it crashes on my MacBook Air running the latest Mavericks. Here's the report that gets generated, if it's of any use to you: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/271144/medusareport.txt If you've downloaded it, or if it's no use to you, please let me kn...

Re: Preferences manager for OSX

Hello, I am glad to announce a new beta of my Medusa application, version 1.2b. I would like to ask Snow Leopard users to give a feedback. My old Macbook 2008 is sick and in the hospital, so I only managed to test on Mavericks! I am specially concerned about some new images I added that work fine fo...

Re: Compile custom variations on Mini vMac

Mmmm can't help much, I'm on a mac and it generates an XCode project. It worked when I tested.

Did you try an older version of Visual Studio?

Re: Architecture of Classic Mac OS

While researching about QEMU I came across this page: https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/qemu-devel/2011-08/msg02378.html Give it a look, it is an email by Natalia Portillo answering a guy who wants to emulate Linux 68k in a Macintosh virtual machine. She explains why it doesn't make much sense beca...

Re: Mac OS 7.5 - 9.0.4?

Oh yes.. office crashes because of memory issues, yeah? Can't the QEMU emulation be done without MMU, though? Even to pair with SheepShaver, it would be nice. By the way, I found this nice text by Natalia Portillo on Macintosh emulation, worth reading: https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/qemu-devel/2...

Mac OS 7.5 - 9.0.4?

Are there any information on running the same OSes supported by SheepShaver on QEMU? I am trying to find more information, but is really tricky to get proper results on any QEMU-related topics. I think maybe it could be more stable than SheepShaver to the point we can use, say, Office 2001 or things...

What's with Fusion?

Are there any news about Fusion 3 in the past few years? First, I am surprised it is not an open-source emulator (or is it?). I used a few years ago and back then it looked quite fast and stable and the "company" that "offers" it doesn't seem to have a nice "market share&quo...

Re: Preferences manager for OSX

Ah! Sure thing. However, I feel like making an editor for this keycodes file too. Is there any documentation for it? Like a dictionary of codes and correspondent keys or things similar? Anyway, the ability to simply refer to the file will be simple enough, so I added to the requests list. https://gi...

Re: Preferences manager for OSX

Hi there, thank you all for the feedback, is really encouraging! I am working on amplifying the ROM recognition code in order to properly support SheepShaver. I am also documenting SheepShaver's preferences in order to write the files correctly. (https://github.com/sentient06/Medusa/wiki/Sheepshaver...

Model ID in SS

Do you guys think we could implement the possibility of reporting another model id in SheepShaver just like in Basilisk II? It would be good to cheat a few installers and stuff like that. We could report some similar models and if the value is too alien, fall back to Gestalt 67. I was reading the ro...

Re: Which ROM is supported by SheepShaver

Hey 24bit, I already checked all new world checksums from Balrog's collection. In fact, I do have some hashes he doesn't. I need to double-check the old world, though. As for this week I found 2 checkums not in that list. My Mac OS 8.1 Profiler says SheepShaver is reporting gestalt #67. Ap...

Re: Which ROM is supported by SheepShaver

Sorry about resurrecting a 4 year old topic, but... Do you guys have the checksum of these ROMs? I am looking for nearly all of these! Very difficult to find. The New World ROMs checksum is the md5 of the file. This version 4.9.1 has no information anywhere, I would really appreciate any help so I c...

Is there any technical manual for SS as it is for B2?

I wanted to learn more details on which processors and ROMs are supported and how they relate to the host machine, etc, without digging into the code. =(

Btw, the B2 manual is here, it is a really good introduction: http://basilisk.cebix.net/TECH

Re: Executor: Reverse engineering Macintosh ROMs?

That's an interesting subject! I remember to read somewhere about Compaq and the ROMs from IBM. As far as I understood, they reverse-engineered the IBM ROM for real and created a very detailed documentation on how it should work and behave. After that, they hired a group of developers to assemble a ...

Executor: Reverse engineering Macintosh ROMs?

I was researching the topic and I came to several references to ARDI's Executor. As far as I understand, Executor only.. "translates" the binaries used by old macs, behaving, sort of, as if there were a ROM there. However, I read some sites suggesting they actually reverse engineered a Mac...

Indeed, unless you re-format to plain HFS inside emulator. The 68k macs won't boot HFS+ drives. Re: Preferences manager for OSX

Yes, I thought in both getting default settings from the ROM file and the disk images. The ROM file information the app fetches from hardcoded information. So it gets the checksum, finds out which ROM is that based in a big list and it can guess: - Which gestalt models use that ROM (it can set model...
