Re: New System 7 setup on OSx Catalina

I've encountered similar issues in the past. Not sure if this will fix any of the problems, but here's what I do: --- Regarding the BasiliskII build error, the Xcode project for BII seems a bit flaky when it comes to making dependencies. I usually explicitly select the "gencpu" and "b...

Re: Ferazel's Wand: Celebrating 20 Years!

Thanks, Clockwise! A couple minor updates to share: - I posted a sort of teaser to Youtube that distills down some of the more exciting elements of the game, if anyone's unfamiliar with it or wants to see a bit more about it. - Both Ben Spees and Eric Speier are hoping to participate in some capacit...

Ferazel's Wand: Celebrating 20 Years!

These 20th anniversary livestreams have been a lot of fun, so I wanted to do one more as we reach the end of Ambrosia's classic game anniversaries. Ferazel's Wand, their first CD release and final classic-only Mac title, is an action-packed, magical adventure game created by Ben Spees. It combined 2...

Re: [solved] hybrid cdrom emulation

Upon further inspection, I found that multiple bin/cue files can handle status and data-related calls, but audio calls are always invalid and fallback to the first mounted disc. I suspect this is actually a Mac OS issue, although it could be a bug introduced lower in the emulation pipeline. On the f...

Re: [solved] hybrid cdrom emulation

Thanks for testing with your setup. I'm glad to hear it's working! I've extended support for mounting any number of bin/cue images, so try pulling and rebuilding from cdaudio_test to check that. The main limitation is with Apple's own software. For instance, the built-in CD player seems unable to re...

Re: hybrid cdrom emulation

This is relevant to the discussion about bin/cue support in Sheepshaver . I've only had success with audio CDs in Sheepshaver using this option since CD passthrough doesn't really work anymore and most image formats don't save audio partitions. In your other topic you mentioned working in Linux, so ...

Re: Working on bin/cue support in SheepShaver

I've continued to play around with the Sound Input Manager and am now much more familiar with how Sheepshaver & BII handle drivers. The patched driver which traps out to audio.cpp's logic is making headway but is still fighting me when it comes to registering the STR# resource of available input...

That was a really entertaining livestream! Nathan Lamont participated in the commentary and talked a lot about the history of Ares, plus Patrick from the old Ares forums joined for a few multiplayer games. Sfiera has posted the video and other materials here: https://arescentral.org/news/livestreame...

Ares 20th Anniv. Livestream

Sfiera, author of the modern Ares port Antares , is hosting a livestream tonight (~8pm Central) celebrating the 20th anniversary of Ares: https://www.twitch.tv/events/SlREPOxtSPG13Z6Its0BhA I only just realized this hadn't been posted, so it's really short notice. Cythera 20th Anniversary Livestream on Sep. 13!

Given the recent discussion about Ambrosia on this board, I thought I'd mention that Ambrosia Software's Cythera just passed 20 years since release. To celebrate, several of us are planning a 20th anniversary livestream event, similar to Avara and EVO's streams. It will be September 13, 8-10pm Centr...

Re: Internetconfig is not properly installed

I'm glad you got this working and can enjoy PoG again, lisebakker! It's true that getting the license to work is a bit of a pain, but at least it's a one-time process. For this particular error, it seems switching to a full new system like emendelson's is the easiest fix. Ideally, we could f...

Re: Ambrosia's website is gone?

It will be interesting to see what happens. I'm sure there won't be anything official from Ambrosia in the future since Andrew Welch now does web development contracting via NYStudio107 , and all the other Ambrosia folks have long since gone their own ways. There's been some discussion at Macintosh ...

Re: Internetconfig is not properly installed

It sounds like you have a full install, so I"m not sure what's happening to you. I looked through Ambrosia's old support forum for PoG, and this issue came up a handful of times but never with a resolution. A couple ideas that might help narrow the problem: - Have you tried the mac_pog_demo fro...

Re: Internetconfig is not properly installed

PoG should run very well in Sheepshaver, but it sounds like there are other problems if Stuffit is crashing too.

What's your host OS, and how did you install Sheepshaver?

Re: can't add, create volumes Mac OS Catalina

Here's a build with a bundle ID. I actually did have a little trouble getting it to work without signing, but it seems like it is now. We may be encountering some buggy behavior simply because Catalina is still early beta. Hopefully others can confirm if it works for them.

That's excellent, guiltydoggy! Here I was looking through source code that loaded prefs and other files, dreading all the changes for sandboxing... It does look like a bundle ID is sufficient for Open & Save to attach. I'm not sure if this is the intended requirement for non-sandboxed proc...

Re: can't add, create volumes Mac OS Catalina

@adespoton, in addition to Ronald's manual suggestion, we could make SheepShaver copy selected files to the current VM for those using the GUI. BasiliskII accepts a custom pref file at launch, so it could do something similar. Although, as you point out, defaulting to VMs would be very different tha...

Re: can't add, create volumes Mac OS Catalina

Found the problem: it's tied to permissions and the increasingly tight security settings in Mac OS. Basically, Apple has changed the NS Open and Save panels to always behave as though an application is sandboxed . I take this as further evidence that Apple soon hopes to force all Mac app distributio...

Re: can't add, create volumes Mac OS Catalina

Thank you for checking! Too bad it's not such a quick fix, but I guess this could be a number of different issues. Maybe it's a permissions problem? I'll download the Catalina beta to try tracing the error we're encountering.

I've attempted to switch to the updated API. It seems to be working in 10.14, but I haven't installed the 10.15 beta yet.

The test build is here (source); can someone running Catalina check if the problem persists?

Re: can't add, create volumes Mac OS Catalina

Add/Create both use the beginSheetForDirectory method to open a file browser. Apple deprecated that back in 10.6, and 10.15 may be officially dropping support. That looks to be the case in teelekkung's video since all browse modals fail to open. Apple recommends moving to beginSheetModalForWindow . ...
