MacQemu tells me it requires 10.4 or higher and then detects my version as 10.11.4.
I can only click OK. Nothing else happens.

Thank you for finding this bug and testing out MacQEMU. I will make a quick beta 2 version that fixes this problem shortly.

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system

Hi, I was wondering if any of you would be interested in helping me test out my new front-end to QEMU I call MacQEMU. Thank you for the offer. Having a lot of different PowerPC chips to test might help us understand what is wrong with QEMU. Would anyone have a PowerPC G4 based Mac they could test Risu on when it is ready?

[edit] Any chance you could compile a copy? I'd like to run it on my G4s and make the resulting data available for others to use when testing qemu.
Right now it doesn't seem to compatible with 32 bit PowerPC CPUs. I will try to change this.

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system

Found a program that can actually test PowerPC instructions inside of QEMU. It is called risu. It works by first running on a real PowerPC, collecting data on how each tested instruction effects all the registers. Then you "replay" this information inside of QEMU and are told of any differ...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system

Are you sure? I thought it used the PPC quicktime plugin for that. I never got SoundApp to play MP3s on my 68k Mac. I guess you're right, SoundApp's website says it needs a PPC cpu for Mp3's. There is MpegDec, for the 68040: -Requirements: 68040 or PPC. fpu not required for 68040 version. SoundMana...

A while ago I post my super cocoa.m file with the pasting feature. This feature didn't appear to work well. I found out that using the USB keyboard makes it work way better than the ADB keyboard. I was able to paste 800 numbers without a single mistake.

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system

Could IBM have made hidden registers in their PowerPC product that Apple was only told about? This could be the assumption about hardware Apple is making. Apple was a co-designer with IBM and Motorola; original chips were manufactured by Motorola, with only the later ones being IBM. Since this didn...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system

There is a gsoc project defined dealing with audio. Perhaps someone takes it? It mentions patching qemu with a old patch set and using gstreamer as backend. http://wiki.qemu-project.org/Google_Summer_of_Code_2017#QEMU_audio_backend I tried to build from the repository containing the old code, but i...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system

For a different perspective, I tried running the same version of Quicktime in VirtualPC running Windows 2000. VirtualPC is a PC emulator originally made by Connectix. To my surprise, the audio also drops. It seems to drop even more than for QEMU! Realplayer was able to handle the MP3 a lot better. D...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system

That reflects what I've seen under OS X on a 2015 15" MacBook Pro with discrete AMD Radeon R9 M370X. Processor in that is a quad core 2.8GHz Core i7-4980HQ (Haswell). Based on that, I don't think the issue is the Host CPU; I'm not getting any performance issues in the emulation or in other sof...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system

I did more sound tests in QEMU. This time I tried playing audio files in Quicktime player 7 on Windows 2000 in qemu-system-i386. The audio would play well for a while, then just drop. There is something about QEMU that Quicktime has a problem with. If I pause then play after a drop, the audio starts...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system

No,in fact. Your saying no sound improvements with mac99p? It does still play sound? I added screamer support to Ben's openbios only. The second part is to add mcayland's patches to qemu itself(and it seems not quite easy to me). But adding screamer to openbios is enough to break OS 9.0 boot (if vga...

I didn't know how many irq's are aloowed.Don't know why but I seemed that no more than 8 (maybe a superstition?).Adding screamer to ozbenh source makes...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system

I have done several tests with the screamer sound card in order to make it play audio better. I thought a problem with it could be that the buffer might need to be completely emptied by setting all values in it to zero. So I added code to the pmac_screamer_tx_flush() function that would completely z...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system

I don't know in what loop the audio runs, but I guess it doesn't get enough time. There is some talk on the development list about supporting sdl2 audio playback as you probably have seen. Perhaps that is a route. Or threading. It seems there are some issues with SDL and threading. Best, Cat_7 I th...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system

The floating point unit in QEMU is slow, but I think it might be fast enough handle sound playback. A number of months ago, when we were looking at the USB sound, we discovered that the FPU was the culprit in causing the delays to the sound buffer. I still think that the floating point unit is the ...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system

To be optimistic,I would say that screamer sound is better than usb and it works in MOS 9 which we didn't have at all (in fact) with usb-audio.So thanks very much to mcayland for his work. In fact, where the sound is really needed in emulatad systems is gaming.I think the most our users care about a...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system

As said when I first provided the screamer builds based on Marks source: only 9.2 has some reasonable stable sound output. Even that worked better when starting e.g., mp3 play a second time. All others crackle and pause. We tested various settings for buffers etc during development, but nothing mad...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system

I tried working on the screamer sound card by changing the size of its buffer. The result was not very good. Too big of a buffer makes the audio not play. A smaller buffer doesn't help things either. I'm wondering if the problem is my computer's processor. It is a 6 year old Core 2 Duo. Maybe we nee...
