Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system

I think yes it can I've tried my Developer Preview 1 image -- works fine (with usb keyboard/mouse). I have tried booting Mac OS X Server 1.2 v.3 and found that this version does it noticeably slower than that I compiled on 10th of Jan.I wonder why is it so?Tested on MOS 10.12.4. Leopard won't boot w...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system

Hi, I think screamer builds never booted OS 9.0.4. That is a regression Mark is planning to look into. Best, Cat_7 In fact,Mark's original version(qemu+openbios) does boot 9.04(though with some difficulties).I wrote about it on Jan 06. Appying Ben's vga patch for qemu to mcayland's version breaks O...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system

Pardon me but isn't gsoc over now? And why does OS X dp2 no longer work in qemu, it did before, oh and maybe try using open firmware image taken from a ppc mac and see if that works DP2 does work(installation OK,installed system rather unstable due to frequent LoginWindow errors). What qemu/openbios...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system

Your saying no sound improvements with mac99p? I meant that I didn't completely add screamer to mac99p,only in openbios,so I don't know if it would benefit somehow for sound. Generally,it would be surely fine to add mac99p to qemu, especially for the benefits in adb work(e.g. in OS 9 or 10.5).Though...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system

No,in fact.I added screamer support to Ben's openbios only. The second part is to add mcayland's patches to qemu itself(and it seems not quite easy to me). But adding screamer to openbios is enough to break OS 9.0 boot (if vga patch is applied to qemu binary).I didn't try 9.1,but 9.2 works (installed...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system

I thougdt about it at the time I tried to combine the possibilities of Ben's and Mark's repos. But I met some things I wasn't sure how to deal with. I didn't know how many irq's are aloowed.Don't know why but I seemed that no more than 8 (maybe a superstition?).Adding screamer to ozbenh source makes ...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system

Sorry,no idea. I though about other aspects concerning screamer and sungem: why do they not work in g3beige?Realtek network device works in g3beige while sungem doesn't (the device is present but "the cable not plugged").Where can be the reason?Sungem code doesn't seem to depend directly o...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system

Not fast,but working .Network is OK,I suppose?Gaming is hardly possible I think.
Is it Rasberry Pi 2?Never played with it,only in qemu fork running RiscOS (a couple years ago).
I suppose it can run on Androids,too...A 4-core ARM would do it fine.

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system

1)If you mean best qemu build, then DP3 can run in August wip builds and the latest, provided by Cat_7(It's about Windows).Don't know which one is better.
2)I think any of them will do (for they all have Disk Utility).

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system

I have both a Gossamer and Yosemite; the Gossamer is a SCSI-based legacy I/O machine, Yosemite is New World/ATA/USB, etc (it's been a loong time, but I /think/ the lowest end G4 (PCI) was on a modified Yosemite config). No variant of Gossamer booted Mac OS 8.6 from OpenFirmware, nor any variant of ...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system

Oh,I didn;t know that about OW Macs. Anyway, trying to use g3beige "as if" New World BW this node is needed. The values from mac99 won't do as it has openpic, not heathrow. In that quote it was about OF script, not CD.And about DP1/Rhapsody,not Mac OS. Though MacOS ROM on cd includes a Forth b...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system

Just to clarify — the reason my boot scripts sometimes spoof PowerMac1,1 isn't anything to do with the OS itself, but the Forth/OF boot script that runs before BootX to decide whether your machine is compatible with the OS or not. It's not a hard check for anything, it just checks the model number....

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system

Afaik, the Old World boot method is still unimplemented in g3beige.It requires one more device: /rom where OldWorld Mac OS ROM lives (in /rom/macos).It then could be started by "boot /rom/macos" command. So far we've booted qemu g3beige a NewWold way (directly from openbios). It seems that ...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system

In fact,we use qemu g3beige as "BW" PowerMac1,1 (adding it to "compatible" property or even change "model" to PowerMac1,1,then creating a dummy /rtas to go through) when trying to boot 8.5 or 8.6.The next stand is interrupt-controller which is missing from g3beige dev t...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system

I don't really know;for mac99 in qemu the reg value is 00040000. Opening Mac OS ROM from MOS 8.6 for Power Macintosh G3 cdrom in a text editor we can see: <CHRP-BOOT> <COMPATIBLE> iMac,1 PowerMac1,1 PowerBook1,1 </COMPATIBLE> <DESCRIPTION> MacROM for NewWorld. </DESCRIPTION> <ICON SIZE=64,64 COLOR-S...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system

I may have missed something but I saw no interrupt controller in dev tree for g3beige at all. There is hw/intc/heathrow_pic.c in qemu source tree. May it be that pic is simply missing in openbios dev tree for g3beige?That wouldn't affect MOSX work. If so what should be the values for this device? Do...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system

For me,fixing bus error is way too high. What bus,for the beginning?...It needs using debuuger, then coding. It's not my land yet.Though I suppose that it is IDE bus. Why?Booting DP1 from hd in mac99 shows "Still waiting for root device" which is surely related to IDE bus not handled.DP1 and 8...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system

BeOS may be started from Mac OS ,but it seems it doesn't support Mac OS 9.That's why I want 8.6.
But booting 8.6 in mac99(with changed MacOS ROM and edited System file) fails with "bus error".That's why the hope is for g3beige.Though currently it fails, too

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system

Yes it's kinda emulation, but not too sotfy (there must be many redirections to "real" hardware). Afaik,no one has booted MOS 9 on G5.On unsupported G4 -- yes. There's something about it at https://www.thinkclassic.org/viewtopic.php?id=46 I think the most "native" system for G5 is...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system

I used to boot DP2 in mac99 so far.Just now have tried 5 or 6 times to boot in g3beige (checking filesystem, rebooting and an error with LoginWindow). The last attempt successful(-usb -device usb-mouse and 32 bit mode on command line). The second boot (after shutdown) successful, the third not. MacOS.a...

I think that booting DP2 in g3beige may be more stable.(As DP1 in g3beige works fine).Didn't try myself though.
