You should be able to use Apple's DiskCopy to make images of the disks. But first you must get a Mac to do it on.

Have you checked ebay? There might be a copy for sale somewhere. Or you could have a look at hotline servers. There is a Hotline server which might have it (it has loads of other mac software on it), but I forgot the address. I will have a look around the internet for you and see if I come across it.

I find phpBB easy to use, but then, most of the forums that I have used have had phpBB or Invision Power Board 1.x, so I am very familiar with those two, but I do usually work out how to use others quite easily.

It is really just a matter of preference. I know people who prefer vBullitin 8O

From what I saw of it, I quite liked it, but I didn't like how the user information was at the right hand side of the post. I'm guessing that can be changed. I won't be upgrading this forum to version 3 though as 2 seems to work fine, and I have a feeling that the theme would need rewriting complete...

phpBB 3

Has anyone used the latest version of phpBB3?

I installed it here just to see what it was like, and I think it is good, but the layout of the posts is different to what I am used to, so I would prefer to stick with version 2.

I wonder if OpenTransport needs to be disabled because Office 98 tries to "call home" or at least checks the network IIRC to see if any other installations exist with the same serial number. You mean like Windows XP does when you install it? I have used Office 2001 on Macs which I assume ...

How fast is the G4? Did it come out of a PowerMac G4?

I know the 400MHz G4 found in Sawtooth Macs can be overclocked to 533MHz just be doing some sort of firmware modification I think.

If it is a 350MHz or 400MHz from a Yikes, I guess it would be fine going 50MHz faster.

I think it depends on what you are doing.

If I remember rightly, the only major difference between a G3 and a G4 is altivec, therefore, programmes that are optimised for AltiVec will run faster on a G4, but there won't be much speed difference for programmes that don't use AltiVec.

I think Hotline is really good. Last year, I used the unofficial 68kmla hotline server quite a lot. It is hosted from a Quadra. I think he had some trouble witht he machine though so it might not be up at the moment.

A/UX requires an MMU right?

Didn't Darek once say that he would add an MMU to softmac if enough people asked him?

Maybe a future version of Gemulator will include an MMU.

Nice screenshots.

I have run Windows 3.1 within BasiliskII before, but that is about it.

Although I did have Windows 95, Windows NT4, Windows XP Pro media centre 2005, and Vector Linux (Text, no X), all running in seperate virtual PCs (VPC5) on my Pentium III system.

Cool!

I think I'm going to have to try and make a page of more up to date screenshots on emaculation.

It is also nice to know that the site seems to work OK still in an emulated Mac.

Is it possible to download this via FTP or HTTP? It's just that I can't use torrents.

Otherwise, it sounds really good and will be a great way of trying out diffferent versions without having to find downbloads.

Lets just hope that the new versions are going to be an improvement on the old versions

I seem to recall that my Beige PowerMac G3 could, although I'm not sure.

My PowerBook 1400 and the 3400 can also support 16 colours (as well as black and white).

You'd probably have to check the NVidia documentation.

Is it a special Apple NVidia card though? Because if it just a normal PC one it might not work in the Macintosh.

What kind of monitor are you using?

I wouldn;t think that would make much difference to low amounts of colours, but the monitor type affects the resolutions that you can choose from in the list.
