XP Service Pack 2 Review

If you don't know already, the final version of Windows XP Service Pack 2 was released today by Microsoft. It's technically called "dual channel DDR".

PCI is a standard hardware interface port included on all computer motherboards since the mid 90's. If you open your case, you should see a column of horizontal white strips on the motherboard near the back (left) side of the case. Those are the PCI slots. They can be used for virtually any type of ...

Yes, but nativecdrom was not a feature of the CVS 0.3pre branch. It was a third-party patch, and thus was not included in the official release.

The question is not whether it will run (it'll run on pretty much any current x86 configuration), but how fast it will run. On a 486, it would run, but it would be utterly unusable. On your K6-2...well...it might be passable if you use the very latest 0.3 build. But I believe for realistic usage (as...

I think PearPC is still missing some major inclusions before it can be released as a 1.0. Namely sound, faster graphics, and a built-in GUI for creating config files and controlling the emulator (like VMware or BSKII). Give them time to build up to a great product. :)

Yeah remember when 0.3pre first came out? It wasn't much different from 0.2. But it evolved over time. ;)

Excellent, they finally fixed the right-alt mapping mistake in the SDL version. I will get this new 0.3.1 version right away. :)

I imagine it would work with a Knoppix bootable CD. I have VMware so I just use a RedHat 9 VM for Linux when I need it. Sheepshaver might run a bit slow in that, though.

Tried out the 0.3 official this morning. Networking works fine, as does Full Screen and resolution changing. Just like the 0.3pre. Although I still get the "sticky Shift key" problem when changing back and forth from Full Screen mode. :?

Can't wait for 0.4pre. :)

Bollix, one thing you forgot to mention is that PearPC is also generating revenue for Apple. Looking back on previous threads about people buying a Mac due to running PearPC and then craving the "full Mac experience", I estimate that PearPC has generated approximately $10,000 in PC sales f...

Get a build with the timing patch (in other words any recent 0.3pre or SDL build). That will clear up the speed problems. :)

If you really know what you're talking about, please attempt to implement this yourself. At the moment, I have no idea how it would work without something being added to PPC.

Yes, this is a good guide, but I would like to know some of the arguments to use when compiling (for processor type and whatnot). If those were included, this guide would be complete, and I'd then it should be bound for the FAQ section. :)
