Re: iOS emulator?
You do not emulate an OS, you emulate hardware. True. Allow me to amend it: to emulate an iPhone 1st generation means we could try and run iPhone OS 1 - 3. I reckon all of which are very outdated as far as they usefulness goes. Well, perhaps lack of usefulness if a good reason to justify lack of in...

Re: iOS emulator?
Well, I agree with pretty much everything you said. But I still think the first versions of iOS would probably go largely ignored by Apple unless they are too similar to the newer versions. I have an "old" iPhone 5 with me running iOS 6. Most apps at Apple Store are useless when using this...

iOS emulator?
Is there any iOS emulator out there?
When I search for it, I always stumble on simulators, but I never saw a real emulator anywhere.
Isn't that weird that a 9-year old system like iOS is still not being emulated?

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
I'm always accepting requests for features. Programmingkid, I use a lot of hot corners in my host Mac OS, but sometimes I would like to use hot corners in the virtual machine too. I have this problem with VirtualBox and Parallels where I go full screen and I accidentaly trigger a hot corner action....

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
Ok I have finished my changes to the Cocoa.m file. You can download it here: http://www.mediafire.com/file/9rohbhsdni049ra/cocoa.m That's nice. But won't the changes eventually become outdated? Do you apply similar changes with every version as necessary? What if you create a repository only to kee...

Do you reckon Basilisk II will fall from grace in favour of Mini vMac after introducing Mactintosh II emulation?

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
Does anyone here have experience with Mac-On-Linux? I was wondering how well its audio worked. Is it able to play an MP3? Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't mac-on-linux for PowerPC machines? In that case it would probably be easier to emulate sound, I reckon, at least the processor should be used...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
I don't remember if I asked this before but, is there any kind of "save state" functionality in QEMU? If so, is it available to any kind of virtual machine or should work be done depending on the case?

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
I've been thinking about that slow floating point unit mentioned a while ago. Do you know if there's a simple fix for it? I don't know, but it feels like sort of a big deal for an emulator, especially one like QEMU. Is there any work being done there that you gentlemen are aware of?

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
... it's easier to track against the official builds so that someone doesn't run a WIP build thinking everything is fully emulated, only to find that their HD image gets totally corrupted and their house burns down when they use one of the new features. Wow, that's some violent programming! Thanks ...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
That... might be a bit much. If it is hard-coded, is never too much. I remember moving some Windows games into Wine wrappers to play on my mac and several times I had to use some dodgy program to edit the games binaries because they were done a long time ago for small 4:3 resolutions and I have wid...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
 So, only the sound and the OT stuff are missing for OS9.2 on QEMU at the moment? Sorry, I lost track of it for some time now. Maybe we should have a "news" page with the stuff done and stuff missing? That google docs sheet must be outdated. My point is: I miss some sort of fi...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
Isn't about us here, being copyrightnazis or such. Is about QEMU and Apple. QEMU isn't like the other emulators or MAME/MESS. They actually have strict rules about their emulated hardware targets requiring copyrighted code to even initialize, let alone boot. Doesn't help a lot that actually QEMU is...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
Heh, just thinking out loud.. I don't get all the fuss aboud Old World ROMs copyrights. Sure, they are copyrighted, but who cares? It was abandoned a long time ago, it is abandonware. As long as the ROMs are not in the codebase of the project, are not automatically downloaded or somehow copied into ...

Re: SheepShaver won't open after reboot.
Maybe nvram file?
In Mac OS X I had problems with the NVRAM file, which is an invisible file normally located in the home directory and called .sheepshaver_nvram. I believe the same file is generated in Windows, but I don't know its location.

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
(Side note: This topic now has over 800 replies, making this the longest thread on eMaculation.) Well, considering we've been waiting for PPC emulation for some 15 years now, I foresee that this thread will surpass 1800 replies in a year or so, until the thing is completely functional. =D It's been...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
Public Beta is picky when it comes to hardware, so I think it will be difficult to make it run on QEMU unless people implement real compatible hardware. What about Rhapsody? And Server 1.0? I managed to run Rhapsody DR2 on VMWare Fusion a long time ago. I wonder how different are the PowerPC versio...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
That's something tricky to catch there. I might want to look into some of the other troublesome parts of PowerPC Mac emulation. I wonder if there are still any issues involving OpenTransport though. Searching up OTRunPortScanners isn't turning up much, if at all, even in the documents sentient prov...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
There are some strings hidden inside the Open Transport extension. These appear to be for debugging purposes and are inside epcf resource forks. Don't forget to check the Serial (Built-in) extension too. The SDK for OpenTransport would be quite useful and I suspect there are a couple of unused/undo...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
Ideally, I'd like hardware documentation on the serial and/or networking hardware used in these Macs. I really would like to figure out how these work in relation to the PowerPC Macs and what is required for a piece of hardware to use OpenTransport with the Macs. You may have to search deep for thi...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
Right now, I can't find anything about the serial hardware Apple used in their PowerPC Macs. I can tell that they used it for ROM Debugging. The USB connection stuff is documented, though I can't remember which specific hardware they used. Can people like me help? What sort of information are you l...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
So... nothing happening? I check this post every week or so and it seems things are stagnant for quite a while.
Is there anything MacOS-wise for GSOC 2016? I saw something about USB support, but it seems there are not many hands on deck to look into the Open Transport issues. =(

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
I decided to go with 10.5 on my main partition since the internet is becoming really slow in 10.4 (using TenFourFox). Until QEMU is up and running, I can still log into 10.4 and use Classic as needed. Must be so painful to use PPC these days.. I am still holding to my Intel Snow Leopard and I feel ...
