I tried all situations you describe, but I cannot reproduce this behaviour in macOS 14.1 Sonoma on Apple Silicon.
Do you use my latest (10 August 2023) build?
Do you run Sonoma on Apple Silicon?

Re: Basilisk II GUI on MacOS 14 Sonoma can't access the file open dialog.
The bug became apparent in Sonoma. The developer is working on it. In the meantime you can add volumes to the prefs file manually using a text editor. You can open the prefs file using Terminal: Launch Terminal (in /Application/Utilities/) and type at the prompt open ~/.basilisk_ii_prefs followed by...

Re: basilisk crash on Monterey 12.6.8
"ignoresegv true" is already in the prefs file. Where does this prefs file come from? It contains settings that will not be written by the current BasiliskII app nor by the GUI apps. Is this setup migrated from an older Mac or did you do a new setup? Apparently you did not follow our setup...

Re: SheepShaver crashing on startup
The path looks strange with /*/ in it. What is the actual path to the SheepShaver app? Is the SheepShaver app inside the SheepShaver folder with the renamed ROM file? Most users will place the SheepShaver app in the "SheepShaver" folder in /Applications, but it can also be run from anywher...

Re: SheepShaver crashing on startup
It is very strange that the file ~/.sheepshaver_prefs (the hidden file .sheepshaver_prefs in your Home folder) could not be found in Catalina, where you said you had SheepShaver running. The file will be created when SheepShaver is run the first time. Anyway, on the Mac where you want to set up Shee...

Re: SheepShaver crashing on startup
You set RAM to a value that MacOS9 and SheepShaver cannot handle. 256 MB is usually sufficient, 512 MB is plenty. You will need to change the value in the prefs file manually to a lower value: Launch Terminal (in /Applications/Utilities/) and type at the prompt open ~/.sheepshaver_prefs followed by ...

You apparently have a file "Startup.wav" in the folder with SheepShaver. Just remove that file.
EDIT: You already found it while I was replying.

I suppose that is how the game is designed. When you click anywhere in the menu bar and then move the arrow along the menu bar, the menu titles will appear underneath the arrow in white.

Re: Can't open my disk images after upgrade
Mini vMac 36.04 works fine here with System 6.0.8 and System 7.0.1 on my Apple Silicon Mac with Ventura. (I will wait with upgrading to Sanoma till at least version 14.1.) Although this is with Ventura, I cannot imagine what would be different with Sanoma. Are you sure the disk images contain intact...

2. Where did you get the files? I can download them, decompress in macOS and again zip them in Windows-compatible zip format. The CUE sheet referenced above is from the third disc of the "Alone in the Dark Trilogy" at the Macintosh Garden. I am not sure if that would work, but definitely ...

Re: Working on bin/cue support in SheepShaver
This download also works fine in SheepShaver with MacOS 9.0.4 on macOS 13.6 on Apple Silicon. The zip archive contains the expected cue/bin pair. After mounting the cue file as CD-ROM, I can play the game from the mounted CD, no need to install the game. No crash here when the color depth is not yet...

Re: Working on bin/cue support in SheepShaver
I cannot make this work in SheepShaver for macOS. In the cases where I got a bin/cue pair to work, I added the cue file as CD-ROM and made sure the bin file is in the same folder as the cue file. But in those cases there was only one bin file. Here I get 61 bin files after unzipping. BTW: This is th...

Re: Working on bin/cue support in SheepShaver
Odd. If the cue file is added in the GUI as CD-ROM and if the matching bin file is in the same folder as the cue file, it should work.
Where did you get the bin/cue pair? I remember a problem with bin/cue files where the files were presented in a OSX zip format that was expanded in Windows.

Re: SheepShaver MacOS Sonoma
I suppose you have this applescript (or an alias of the script) in the Startup Items folder in the 8.5 System Folder to have it launch at startup. If you remove it there, can you then run the script after startup in full-screen mode is completed? The Settings item in SheepShaver menu being greyed ou...

Just done same thing on new mac book air 15" with Sheepshaver 2.5 on sonoma. Note that SheepShaver versions are identified by the build date, not by the version number. All 30+ builds since 2018 have version number 2.5. Also I cannot access settings -just greyed out in the sheepshaver dropdown...

The issue was reported with a Sanoma beta version. We decided to wait till it was reported with the final release. I will inform the developer of the GUI app. (Adding or removing disk images can also be done in a text editor.) Edit: Is it only the "Open" dialog or also then "Save"...

Re: Can't install multi-cd game
IIRC, the block size of the HDD (image) has an influence on the file size shown in Finder. That might explain 61K vs. 80K. The Finder does not only show size on disk, which depends on the disk's block size, but it also shows the actual file size. Here, the size of this installer application is alwa...

Copy (drag) the file from the mounted CD image to your virtual HD (not to the desktop), then copy (drag) the file from your virtual HD to "Unix".

Re: Can't install multi-cd game
I do not know yet if the new "drop and mount" feature in BasiliskII will work for the installed MacOS as actual CD-swapping. My latest BasiliskII (10 August 2023) build can mount disk images as CD-ROM by dragging them into the BasiliskII window. Only one image can be mounted that way at a ...

Is it only when changing to the other display? Does SheepShaver run fine on each display separately when launched there?
In what way do you move SheepShaver between displays?
