Re: "Could not be opened, can't find original creator" error even though everything is right

"Very buggy" is not a clear description. Always use the latest SheepShaver build that is compatible with your host system for best performance. For OS X 10.11 use the 13 September 2022 build. If you encounter a specific bug, you can report it. You really need to be more specific about the ...

Re: How to use a USB floppy drive in Sheep Shaver

I'm trying to format disks for use on a Classic II, and install software from the Macintosh Garden, by using Sheepshaver as a 'bridge' between the old and new world machines. HFS disks in aan external floppy drive will not mount in modern macOS and then cannot be accessed from SheepShaver. But Disk...

Re: How to use a USB floppy drive in Sheep Shaver

Is this a trick that only works on Intel Macs, or is it supposed to work on Apple Silicon as well? Do you mean the feature of mounting a disk image as CD-ROM by dragging it from the host into the emulator window? This feature was introduced in kanjitalk755 source in August 2023. It should work in a...

Re: How to use a USB floppy drive in Sheep Shaver

Assuming you run a recent SheepShaver build (August 2023 or later), you can try this: - Do not import the disk images into SheepShaver, but leave them on the host! - Drag the first image file into SheepShaver window, it will mount in SheepShaver as a read-only CD-ROM - Start the installation - Remov...

Re: File lost after crash

You will need to provide more information to get a sensible answer.

Did the host Mac crash or did the emulated machine in SheepShaver crash?
If the host machine crashed, did it crash while SheepShaver was running?
Where was the file saved?
Did you make any backups?

Re: Using a virtual serial port

As far as I am aware, no serial ports are available in current versions of BasiliskII and those settings are non-functional.

What do you want to use the ports for? Maybe there is a different way to achieve what you want.

Re: BasiliskII crashes at startup with SIGSEGV error - MacOS 14.2.1

We found that JIT-compiler wil crash BasiliskII in Sonoma. I could reproduce it when I run BasiliskII with Rosetta in Sonoma on my M1 Mac. JIT-compiler was already disabled on Apple Silicon, JIT-compiler settings are ignored there. Apparently it could be used on Intel up to Ventura, but not anymore ...

I do not know how the additional prefs file got into your Documents folder. Re: BasiliskII crashes at startup with SIGSEGV error - MacOS 14.2.1

I did not expect the new build to solve your issue as the older build should run fine. Please post here the content of your prefs file: Launch Terminal (in /Apps/Utilities/) and type at the prompt open ~/.basilisk_ii_prefs followed by a return. The file will open in your default text editor. Select ...

Re: BasiliskII crashes at startup with SIGSEGV error - MacOS 14.2.1

I only have a M1 Mac, so I cannot try BasiliskII in Sonoma on Intel myself. (Can anyone else here try BasiliskII in macOS 14.2.1 on Intel?) In the meantime: 1. Did you update Sonoma from 14.2 to 14.2.1 and did BasiliskII run on 14.2? 2. Have you tried restarting your Mac and then try to launch Basil...

Re: BasiliskII crashes at startup with SIGSEGV error - MacOS 14.2.1

BasiliskII 10 August 2023 build runs fine here in macOS 14.2.1 (Sonoma), both natively on Apple Silicon and with Rosetta.

Which BasiliskII build do you use?
Does your host run on Intel or on Apple Silicon (M series) processor?

Re: SheepShaver Installation and User Guides

It seems you have SheepShaver.app installed inside the .sheepvm package. If you created several .sheepvm packages and installed SheepShaver.app in each of them, the Finder will loose track of which SheepShaver.app to use. Better have only one copy of SheepShaver.app installed. If you use all VMs in ...

Re: "your computer needs at least 32MB of RAM to install OS9"

Maybe at setup in SheepShaver Preferences, you did not give the emulated machine enough RAM. The setup manual suggests values of 128, 256, or 512 MB.

Re: How to transfer files to sheepshaver without giving access to hard drives

Not sure what you want to achieve. If not on a hard drive, where are the files you want to transfer?

Things work a little differently on different hosts (macOS, Windows, Linux). Which is your host system?

The best way to mount a disk image in BasiliskII is to leave the image file on the host side and add the file to the voliumes list in the GUI.

A Quadra900 ROM should work.
Try the Performa ROM from this page: https://redundantrobot.com/sheepshaver
If it does not work, the failure must be caused by something else.
