Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
The script posted by Steven is for Mac OS X in fact. I used it a year ago to make disk partitioning for Server installation. Somehow pdisk was and is present in my system. I think it belongs to BSD subsystem as it exists in, say, NetBSD, too. As for Meow, he uses Windows, as I recollect, so the only...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
It's easy to change the model to PowerMac3,1 in OpenBios prompt or in qemu command-line via "-prom-env 'boot-command=...'". Steven did similar things with g3beige to make older MacOS X Server versions starting to boot.

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
Well, it's no wonder OS X Server doesn't boot in mac99. Mac OS X 10.0 DP1 didn't boot in it as well and also due to IDE incompatibility. But did they work in real PowerMac3,1? In fact, qemu mac99 is not a valid sawtooth machine as it has via-cuda for managing ADB bus (like g3beige had), while real Po...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
Oh, it's a great news! Some time ago, when I realized that adb issues in g3beige are related to cuda implementation and that Mark Cave-Ayland worked much with it, I supposed that it's up just to him to fix the problem. And really, I can see 7 days ago changes in qemu/hw/misc/macio/cuda.c by mayland ...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
Well, I don't use any of those tricks. For me, it's enough to use -rtc base=2001-01-X and, in guest, disabled Network Time Synchronization in System Preferences> Date and Time>Network Time to boot into PB and have working network. Telnet in terminal works fine, but as for IExplorer, I managed to acc...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
For Public Beta you can just boot without network, disable network time synchronization in System Preferences and next, boot with network and -rtc base=2001-01-01 (or like that).

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
I have just tried the build and failed to boot OS 9.0 or 9.0.4 while they boot fine with the standard open-bios (without screamer support). OS 9.2.2 boots fine though requires usb-mouse to have manageable mouse. The sound quality is perfect indeed. The user interface is definitely wrong. To make lef...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
A great news! Thanks so much to Mark Cave-Ayland for his work and you for the builds! Haven't tried them yet but as seen from your post, screamer doesn't break OS 9.0 boot anymore which is a large step forward as well as sound quality improvement. Thanks again!

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
I have just tried the new build for MacOS and it appears that it supports sungem and is capable of booting Leopard with -device usb-mouse -device usb-kbd. It means that IDE patches necessary for that have been applied at last. The UI is sometimes strange and unpredictably changing mouse behavior.

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
I will be also a little off-topic,but think it could be interesting. Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
I described my efforts on December 2016: to boot MacOS < 9.04 I changed MacOS ROM file to newer one (e.g., 5.2.1), changed the system version to 9.0.4 and used -cpu G3. MacOS 8.6 crashed with bus error (system bomb). In fact, MacOS >=8.6 should boot in New World machines, but in qemu we have, for som...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
As I recollect, BeOS Launcher can be started in MacOS 9 in qemu in 256 color mode only, but fails to work telling it doesn't support MacOS 9. That's why I tried to get MacOS 8.6 in qemu which wasn't successful. I remember, Steven Troughtonsmith supposed that qemu wouldn't boot BeOS even from MacOS 8...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
If so, we need the emulated hardware be closer to what OS's drivers suppose them to be? Screamer, usb-audio, adb mouse and keyboard. Not easy It requires a very detailed knowledge. An alternative is creating drivers fitting existing virtual hardware.A year ago I thought about porting Hackintosh Vood...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
Thank you for the explanation! Now it looks clearer. Seems that we're on "bleeding edge"of legality (and development, too). So a couple of curious facts concerning qemu-ppc Mac OS sound issues. I've tried Debian ppc image from here: https://people.debian.org/~aurel32/qemu/powerpc/ with qemu...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
So our usage of Tiger or Leopard in qemu-system-ppc is illegal? Qemu is not an Apple hardware. I think, copyright law is applicable for source code only, for binary distros it's License Agreement which expires 7 years after the end of official tech support and software updates. For example, Windows ...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
Here is the link to VMWare unlocker : https://github.com/DrDonk/unlocker It doen't work in High Sierra for me (makes VMWare non-working), but it works fine in 10.12.It allows vanilla installation of MacOS older than 10.7. Though I can use my VMs in VMWare without it (hackintosh way, call your system...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
The problem today is that modern 64-bit architecture has drifted enough from what 10.5 ran on that 10.5 doesn't work properly in a vanilla VirtualBox install (and VMWare and Parallels won't even attempt it -- but also fail to install Server). Hmm, it's strange for me that you have troubles with x86...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
No, I don't think it's up to 10.DP1 as it works fine in older qemu versions (I definetely know about Cat_7's 19.05.2017 version out of latest) and it works fine with newer qemu versions compiled with your older cocoa.m. The layout is just crazy. It's not that you see wrong characters, you just see re...

Thanks very much! Gonna try it soon. Suppose it's great as before or even better! [edit]Have just tried to use your new cocoa.m. Sorrow, it seems worse than your older one. Namely, it has the same issue with keyboard layout as official qemu 2.10.1 and qemu-ppc-ozbenh-wip rebased versions (tried with...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
I've found some time to test some newer qemu versions, exactly official qemu 2.10.1 and 2 branches from mcayland GitHub repo: qemu-ppc-ozbenh-wip-rebase-1 and qemu-ppc-ozbenh-wip-current.The last 2 versions are rebasements of Ben Herrenschmidt WIP version we all know, to the newer qemu versions. The r...

About the 2017-16-09 OS X build.I found sungem not working with g3beige (cable not plugged,as it was before in...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
I think no, you can't boot them in official qemu versions earlier than 10.05.2017 as MacDrivers patches had been missing untill that point.Cat_7's 19.05 versions can do it(as well as Mac OS X Server 1.2).

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
I've just tried this version with my MOS 9.0.4 image and found the same issue as we met in the January tested version (with both vga and screamer support). Booting hangs with, no matter, 'vga-ndrv?=true', 'vga-ndrv?=false', -cpu G3, -device usb-mouse... Whereas it boots fine in 21.08.2016 WIP versio...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
This thread is about qemu-system-ppc.As for qemu-system-i386 and qemu-system-x86_64 I know that recent versions support Intel haxm (hardware acceleration module) on Windows which should make emulation much faster.Know nothing about 3D graphics acceleration.Sorry.
