Re: using Dropbox for file transfer?
If you use a Mac host, you can create a SparseBundle image that saves the drive in "slices" -- so that only the data that's changed needs to be updated; most of the drive image is left alone. Both SheepShaver and BII support sparsebundles, at least on OS X. You can do the same thing with V...

Re: Can't see or start games/applications...
The A/ROSE extension is known to be incompatible with emulators. You'll need to pull it out of the System Folder:Extensions folder by mounting the image while using another boot image, or by timing holding down the shift key perfectly and then removing and rebooting. 32-bit Quickdraw is a core piece...

Re: using Dropbox for file transfer?
There's already a guide on here for setting up a Hotline server; as far as Classilla goes, it's got its own website, and you can just download and install it. For encryption, PGP is likely the way to go: http://www.pgpi.org/products/pgp/versions/freeware/mac/ -- for older Mac OS installs, you'll nee...

Re: using Dropbox for file transfer?
I'm not sure that DropBox will work from OS 9; the SSL implementation is likely too old. That said, Classilla is pretty up to date, so it's possible you could use DropBox/etc. on it. DropBox, of course, isn't all that secure, so ensure you encrypt your stuff before sharing it on there. You could als...

Re: Can't see or start games/applications...
I'm afraid I've no Idea what to to do. If I click "Cancel" then I can browse to the folder w/ Prince2 in it but my emulated Mac says that it cannot be opened. That goes to the second part of what I said: you need a disk image with Stuffit Expander on it. See http://www.emaculation.com/dok...

Re: Can't see or start games/applications...
.sit is the Classic Mac analog to .zip for Windows and .tgz for Linux. You need to stick it on an image, or put it in your shared folder (and enable the shared folder in prefs). Then you need to have Stuffit Expander installed on your System 7 image to unstuff it. Also, you're probably going to want...

Re: Create SS .vm using Chubby Bunny
Definitely switch from Safari to Firefox or Chrome; SLS Safari is not safe to use for HTTPS, as it can be trivially broken by anyone who can get in the middle of the transaction, either via WiFi or by access to one of the intermediary routers. Do not use SLS Safari for banking. But other security te...

Re: Black Screen With 256 Colors
Possibly it has something to do with how the ROM allocates memory for video RAM; could be a related bug in BII, or just that the original hardware couldn't handle that.

Re: Black Screen With 256 Colors
Ah; I should have twigged to that. Certain ROMs have max resolution settings. I was dealing with this just last week when attempting to set some ROM window dimensions to 1280x720.

Re: Create SS .vm using Chubby Bunny
The exploits are in underlying technologies, that have since been patched by everyone else, but as SLS and SL aren't being patched anymore, they didn't get the fixes. This means that HTTPS, for example, is inherently broken on SL(S).

Re: Create SS .vm using Chubby Bunny
Still, deprecated means: will not be supported in future OS. Expect carbon applications to stop working in a future OSX version, could be as soon as 10.12. You never know, Apple will not tell so in advance. Well, I'm all set up! I have a copy of Mavericks to install, plus Parallels and Snow Leopard...

Re: Black Screen With 256 Colors
By "latest system 7" do you mean 7.6.1, or 7.5.3? To boot without extensions in BII, you need to hold down the shift key at just the right moment. It's probably worth installing Conflict Catcher or Extensions Manager as well, so you can attempt to disable the appropriate extension that way...

Re: Black Screen With 256 Colors
I presume you mean 256 colors within your guest OS (which verion?) and not OS X, which won't go that low?
You can set the colors back by changing the bit depth in your BII prefs and rebooting. You *may* have to also delete the xpram file.

Re: Create SS .vm using Chubby Bunny
Carbon has been officially deprecated since 10.6. It still works, but the writing's on the wall. That's why Paul worked so hard on porting Mini vMac to Cocoa.

Re: Create SS .vm using Chubby Bunny
I think you've nailed it. The Finder was one of the last bastions of 68k code, and most of those resources were replaced with Carbon ones in OS 9. There were some issues with these through 9.1, although most were fixed between 9.0 and 9.0.4. I do remember the 9.1 finder being WAY more stable than 9....

Re: Erratic mouse in pool games
See Ronald's note above. It's likely relating to hardware and software polling of the mouse input -- possibly related to SDL 1.2. If someone can get BII and SS compiling using SDL 2.0 (this will take significant rework of the code calling SDL), that might fix the issue, but otherwise it is unlikely ...

Re: Create SS .vm using Chubby Bunny
If you look at the timeline, the dev versions of OS X came with 8.6; 9 was slated to be 8.7, but then they decided to add in the OS X compatibility layer (CarbonLib + MultiUser + iTools + Unix FS support + Classic) and window dressing and release it as 9 instead, to make it easier to differentiate w...

Re: Create SS .vm using Chubby Bunny
That's the OS itself; 8.6 has a smaller footprint, is faster, and more stable. 9 is carbon-friendly and as such has some new features that some software requires. 9 is also more stable for some software in SS (Word 5.1 anyone?); not sure what the reason is behind that.

Re: Basilisk II with game Chu-Teng - ,,Cannot Open ROM file"
Read through the guide on here for Basilisk II and it should help you out. You've already got an OS image with that archive, but your ROM image is either improperly named for your prefs file, or it got damaged somehow. Also, the cdenable.sys note indicates that the original poster is using an old ve...

Mac OS X 10.5 and VirtualBox
Well, here's the issue: VirtualBox 4.3.6 runs OS X 10.5.8 just fine. My 2015 MBP however, runs OS X 10.11, which is incompatible with 4.3.6 -- it needs 5.something. Furthermore, the MBP uses the CrystalWell architecture, which 10.5 doesn't recognize. So, I've done the following: 1. remove /System/Li...

Re: Create SS .vm using Chubby Bunny
You can upgrade from 8.6 to 9.0.4 with the 9.0.4 install CD (or CD image); it's a pretty painless process, as you don't even need to reboot prior to running the upgrade. I miss the days of Mac OS overinstalls where you didn't need to boot off separate media to overinstall :) That said, I started spl...

Yes. That's the only bit of CB you need, other than the ROM.
