Hey Arbee. This is sort of a random question, but as far as I am aware M.E.S.S. is released under a license that is incompatible with the GPL which is what Mini vMac is currently released under. Will that create problems in regards with sharing code between the two projects?

If you have an old 1998-era computer sitting around, that would be perfect for FreeDOS. I previously ran it on an old 350 PII with an ATI Radeon 7000 and 256 mb of ram.

You could also try VirtualBox or QEMU Manager.

I believe you need to install the full FreeDos versions in order to get the sound drivers.

I asked Jim Watters (he used the old emulators more than anyone) on Delphi about that and he pointed out that sometimes the emulator can cause corruption of the hard disk image. It isn't about damage of anything on the host-system end. So this can be overcome just by doing some backups before you s...

Do you remember your Fusion30 sound settings or are you aware of some kind of manual covering the sound settings? I can't make it play, except for some rare and queer alert sounds, that can't be reproduced. These settings don't really matter, as there will be no 24bit mode, I'm just curious. It's m...

I would have tried using FreeDos instead, since it comes with many drivers for sound, etc. Running Fusion from Windows 98 doesn't tend to work well, unless you boot into a pure DOS session and manage to find DOS compatible drivers as well as disable all memory managers like EMM. Windows 95 setup is ...

I would like to post the instructions for Fusion PC in Dosbox, but I think they be bit convoluted because I took the "warning" in the readme seriously and jumped through hoops.

Does this warning have any validity whatsoever? If not, I can post far simpler instructions.

Ok, so you did install it I assume.

Ok, I was thinking of something else... so just ignore my "remove component" suggestion. Instead, try installing System 6 again but make sure to not select the AppleShare component.

I tried FusionPC in Dosbox once, it was pretty slow. Also, I was always a little cautious because of this warning in the readme: * DO NOT attempt to use pre-made 'bootfiles' or 'filedisks' from other Macintosh emultions (such as vMac or ShapeShifter). These will not only not work, but can cause the ...

Likewise, I have a feeling that not all Starbucks gift card are the same, and therefore those from different countries are not necessarily valid in the U.S.

Maybe I could trade for my Windows NT 4 Server CD package. :P

Seriously though, why bother when System 7.5x is on the web?

I believe you out of luck then. :( I have tried many Mac II emulators in order to run System 6.0.8. I even tried that older build of Basilisk II (94). None of them have worked, and I've never found out why. I remember that FusionPC also didn't work. All I got was the "Need 24-bit addressing&quo...

I must admit, the more I read the name "Gryphel", the more I have warmed up to it. It really isn't a bad name at all. It's just that I've gotten so used to Mini vMac. Like "New Beetle". Still, Mini vMac has and is changing in a way in that original name may not be as fitting as i...

I still think the original name is still valid and fitting. Had this been one or two years after Mini vMac was released, I would have agreed, but Mini vMac has been out for a long time. It's name has been established as a brand. Besides, I don't think many new users even know about vMac anymore, and...

I'm thinking of calling it the "Gryphel Emulator", or just Gryphel for short, reusing the name and icon of some software I haven't done anything with for a while. I already have the "gryphel.com" domain (The main page of which has the logo I'd use for the icon). Gryphel may not ...

Considering the bleak future of domain names in general, it looks like a good practice to learn as many IP addresses as possible. :P

On Mac OS X SheepShaver, a lot of time ago I had an Applescript app which played an startup sound (Performa 52xx, i think) and then booted SS... it was easy to do, just two lines of code.
No doubt the same thing could be done with Windows Batch/CMD scripting or GNU+Linux scripts.

I think Opera 5.0 might have supported TLS. Unfortunately. the 68k version is elusive. It did exist, but Opera only archived the PPC version. :(

Still would like to try the MacX method. Talk about elusive software. :P

Definitely not as much as the Macintosh, but you'd be surprised what was ported to the Lisa.

Microsoft Xenix, for example. :P
