Re: Run game in Mac OS9 with Sheepshaver
I gave it 1000Mb of space and 512 for RAM, which should be way more than enough. It's possible that is actually too much and that the game does not know how to handle that much RAM and empty space. It might work with more reasonable values, like maybe 200 MB of space and 64 MB of RAM. Alternatively...

Re: Trouble running a game
Hello. I'm having trouble running a game. It's on a CD-ROM, and I have 64-bit Windows, so I had to extract the contents and make an image file. 4. I had a hard time extracting the contents, because my Windows laptop couldn't read the disk. I ended up using a specialty program, I think MacDisk or Tr...

This forum is principally concerned with emulation of old Mac computers. I expect there's no shortage of sites out there with much more traffic where your problem would be addressed more quickly. More importantly, I have no idea what you mean by "android emulator from google website". What...

In my opinion it could be just great to make a similar software. Just for fun, for challenging ourself! PS: I’m not a programmer I suggest you challenge yourself to learn rudimentary programming rather than concocting fanciful ideas about what other people would find "fun". that “WOW” thi...

Re: I'm trying to set up 10.4 on my windows 10 laptop
Hi, I'm new here, and I'm trying to set up an emulator that can run 10.4 tiger on a virtual pc so I can run an old powerpc program without purchasing several hundred dollars of software in order to convert the data. If it comes down to that, I reckon you could probably find an old Mac Mini for a lo...

Re: [SheepShaver – Mac OS 9] Reverse Engineering a game
I would start by making absolutely sure no one's gone down this path before. There are probably many things done to the Windows version that might apply directly to the PPC version, once you understand how they were done to the Windows version in the first place. But I also expect that, as noted in ...

Re: [SheepShaver – Mac OS 9] Reverse Engineering a game
Why not just tell us the name of the game you're looking at? My second question would be, are you sure widescreen support is feasible at all? I wasn't aware Sheepshaver could run in widescreen. I expect for starters you'll want some kind of debugger or disassembler, but I wouldn't know what the best...

Re: Help opening files in Basilisk
Just an educational question - how do you know when you are dealing with a compressed file based on the information you might see in a hex editor? Is there another file signature to look for to show that it has been compressed? Probably – but it will be different for every compression format, and I...

Re: Help opening files in Basilisk
Gee. Does Stuffit Expander not handle DiskDoubler? That's an unfortunate limitation.uhhu wrote:The ".pm" files are Pagemaker files compressed with DiskDoubler.
The Unarchiver trick ought to work in that case as well, anyway.

Re: Help opening files in Basilisk
I wonder if it's possible that the files are encoded with MacBinary III, and that Expander doesn't recognize them? The quick and easy thing to do would be to try probing them with The Unarchiver. Try following the instructions at https://www.emaculation.com/doku.php/extracting_stuffit_5_files_in_win...

Re: Help opening files in Basilisk
The utility in that other thread is used for .zip files created in OSX. These are easily identified by the presence of a folder named "__MACOSX" in the .zip file. It would seem what we are dealing with here is something completely different – zip archives of MacBinary-encoded files. I susp...

Re: Requests for SheepShaver's 20th Anniversary
It has been so long that at this point it seems quite hopeless to expect further major development of Sheepshaver, or the creation of any major new replacement. It seems QEMU is the future. I'm getting kinda sick of SS only supporting Power Mac ROMs as it makes it quite difficult to install most gam...

Re: Installing a game CD from host OS Windows 10
I'm trying to install Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis from a retail disc to Mac OS 9 from the host OS Windows 10 64bit. Windows 10 shows a blank disc and SheepSaver doesn't read it either. I have an old Pentium 4 desktop with Windows XP 32bit if that would be easier to get the game to read. ...

There was some discussion of running Prince of Persia 2 over in this thread. https://emaculation.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=8940&p=52956&hilit=persia#p52956 I would suspect that the disk image is somehow missing files or is otherwise corrupted. If you copied the files to a Windows fol...

Re: ROM Checksum Identification Tool?
I have a number of unlabeled ROM files from back when I bought dozens of 68k Macs off eBay starting around 20 years ago and wish to delete duplicates. Wasn't there some emulator that would show you the checksum of the selected ROM before powering on the emulator? Isn't it just a standard CRC32? The...

Have you been able to copy anything else using HFVxplorer? Are you dragging files from Windows Explorer to HFVExplorer, or are you dragging files from one part of the tree in hfvexplorer to another part of the tree? I think there's a download somewhere with Stuffit Expander 5.5 already in a .hfv, bu...

Are you sure the old files were copied and archived correctly? If they were copied to a Windows drive, they may have lost their resource forks, or at least their Type/Creator information.

Re: Is there any equivalent to ReactOS or Wine for macOS?
like what Wine does in Linux or what ReactOS attempts to do, a clone of Mac OS (Classic) but for common Intel PCs. At the risk of stating the obvious, Wine in Linux and ReactOS both generally run x86 code on an x86 computer. As the Classic Mac OS ran on either a PowerPC or 68k, emulation of the CPU...

I only use/need reading access. In windows 7, I can read the files and folders fine with MacDrive. I can ...

Re: Cannot run application in SheepShaver, on Windows 10
If the zip archive is in OSX zip format, it will preserve resource forks. However, the resource forks will only be preserved when the archive is again unzipped with an appropriate application within OSX. As far as I know, no classic MacOS application exists that can do that. It so happens there's o...
