Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
You'll want to reference /dev/disk3, not the partition on the disk. Alternately, you use the block mount devices (better) which would be at /dev/rdisk<number>.

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
Well, I decided I wanted to be able to build the entire toolchain, so I've installed CW 10 in my 10.4.11 image, and am attempting to build the QEmuMacDrivers source. No luck so far, but hopefully I'll get there soon. There's poetic beauty to be able to build the drivers from within the environment t...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
I have no idea if actual Mac hard drives would work, but if they were to work, they would have to IDE drives, not SCSI. The worst case scenario is better than nothing and there are USB drives out there that you can plug into the Mac (although probably not bigger than 1 GB, but we'll see.) ...or a S...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
Another "Average Joe" question: When all the kinks are worked out, when it's finally "Mission Accomplished," (as far as getting 9.2.2 fully loaded on QEMU) would I be able to clone my OS 9.2.2 partition on my older Mac, convert the cloned partition image to a virtual hard drive ...

Re: Cannot get either CD of Myst or .DMG to mount in OS 9. H
If you created it with Toast, shouldn't it show up as a .toast file? Have you tried locking that file in the OS X Finder, then adding it as a cdrom in Prefs? I presume if you're using COI (not supported on this site) that you're using the stripped down OS 9 version. Your luck may improve with a full...

Re: Run 256 color game
Due to the better documentation, I've actually been considering putting time into improving the m68k module in qemu to boot 68k Macs and do away with BII altogether in my collection. In the meantime, Mini vMac II has got to the point where it is superior to BII in almost every way (no shared folder,...

Re: Run 256 color game
For System 7.0 and 7.1, setting the display depth in Monitors in BII only persists while the emulator is running. You can reboot, etc. while switching to thousands of colors, and it persists. But once I quit the emulator and start it back up, I'm back to millions of colors, as you've noted. The prob...

Re: Run 256 color game
Hmm... any chance we can get Win/OSX builds with this compiled in? I don't have my GCC toolchain set up anymore and BII won't compile under LLVM :( I've found that BII has serious performance issues above thousands of colors when you set large screen dimensions. Haven't tracked down the issue yet, b...

Get the official 2.7 release build off the website, and use it with the VGA-enabled OpenBIOS from these threads; that should boot everything for you.

The first set of icons with the shadows are someone else's artwork, and the license prohibits re-use; I might re-make those from scratch. I've already re-done the System 6 icons since then, as I looked at my floppies and they had Macintosh in green up the side instead of the older method used up unt...

Re: Shoebill Under New Management
Thanks! As a Mac II emulator, it shows a lot of promise, but there are still a number of instructions that need bugs ironed out. Communication with Paul Pratt might be a good idea too, since he's been hard at work on getting Mini vMac doing full emulation of the Mac II.

Re: My OS History Project...
I've ended up doing Apple I through El Capitan, but it got too big, so my main folder is just consumer releases of the Mac OS now (I've got Twiggy, dev releases, etc. in a different folder, and Apple computers + Lisa in a different folder as well). So here it is: https://c8.staticflickr.com/9/8138/2...

Re: QEMU Mac OS 9 and X Software Compatibility List
Out of curiosity, I decided to try installing PowerFPU to see if offloading all FPU to the main processor core would change anything. Without PowerFPU, my score is 329. With PowerFPU, my score is 324. Not really statistically significant, but it looks like instead of passing floating point operation...

Re: QEMU Mac OS 9 and X Software Compatibility List
Agreed; on writethrough with sparsebundle backing via block device, I'm getting 1327 on the Disk test and 1012 on the Publishing test. This means that other than the FPU, QEMU 2.8-devel is performing marginally better than a Power Macintosh G3/300. Good enough for me.

Re: QEMU Mac OS 9 and X Software Compatibility List
Do you have the software you used for the speedrun available? I've got some Minis I could run the tests on for a comparison. Also, I'd like to run a few tests on my system, which mounts drives as block devices off a high speed SSD. One of the main bottlenecks in qemu appears to be disk I/O, and usin...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
Something I've been planning to experiment with, but haven't yet, is since I load my images in block mode from /dev now, I might be able to attach my exchange image to multiple guests at the same time, as the host is controlling I/O. Not sure if this will work, or if the guests will end up with inco...

Change the load order of your disk images from the command line Sorry; I forgot to mention that part.
Otherwise, it looks like the very latest OpenBIOS has been patched to allow dual boot on the same partition.

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
http://www.jackosx.com/ You'd have to install this on a version of Mac OS X 10.4.x (or 10.3.9 if you're using Version 0.74 or older). Presumably, you'd then be able to use -device usb-audio to hear audio coming from JACK. Of course, this seems like a stopgap solution more than anything. My actual i...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
Has anyone tried my suggestions of using JACK or similar to simply route the audio to the host? Since audio processing seems to work and it's just the output hardware we're lacking, this should enable output to the host. For that matter, JACK inegration in qemu should work, as it's OSS and cross-pla...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
Better to use a retail disk, and then use a retail 9 disk and 9.2.2 update to install on a separate disk image. That way, you can dual boot, move the images around, and still use the secondary image as your Classic location.

Re: System 6 in Technicolour: The Fast Track to Colour Syste
Having sent in a number of those Mac II requests, I have to say that it's due to there not being a real "normal" Mac II build. I've been testing Mac II builds and have found that I can build a variant that supports everything back to System Software 0.1 (System 2.0, Finder 1.1g) -- and I h...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
I had been meaning to mention: going the Mini vMac/MPW route has the same issues as the MPW emulator: 68k only. That said, the PPC linker should still work, and a cross compiler is all we need for the PPC code. This should be something we can instrument without resorting to compiling it in CW from w...

Re: QEMU Mac OS 9 and X Software Compatibility List
Some suggestions for fixing the audio issue: http://www.jackosx.com/ -- won't help on OS 9, but we should be able to deploy a network audio driver that uses a remote sound card (the host) to drive audio. Can't guarantee it'll work, but it's worth experimenting :) http://abyssoft.com/software/soundfl...

Then I looked at the IDE file... CodeWarrior 5 !?!? I guess I could try and dig out my copy of CodeWarrior, but that's an XML file, and I don't recall my copy of CodeWarrior 10 using XML -- which means this must be something more recent. Ben Herrenschmidt will get his builds included in the qemu so...
