Re: Internetconfig is not properly installed

PoG should run very well in Sheepshaver, but it sounds like there are other problems if Stuffit is crashing too.

What's your host OS, and how did you install Sheepshaver?

Re: can't add, create volumes Mac OS Catalina

Here's a build with a bundle ID. I actually did have a little trouble getting it to work without signing, but it seems like it is now. We may be encountering some buggy behavior simply because Catalina is still early beta. Hopefully others can confirm if it works for them.

Re: can't add, create volumes Mac OS Catalina

That's excellent, guiltydoggy! Here I was looking through source code that loaded prefs and other files, dreading all the changes for sandboxing... It does look like a bundle ID is sufficient for Open & Save to attach. I'm not sure if this is the intended requirement for non-sandboxed proc...

Re: can't add, create volumes Mac OS Catalina

@adespoton, in addition to Ronald's manual suggestion, we could make SheepShaver copy selected files to the current VM for those using the GUI. BasiliskII accepts a custom pref file at launch, so it could do something similar. Although, as you point out, defaulting to VMs would be very different tha...

Re: can't add, create volumes Mac OS Catalina

Found the problem: it's tied to permissions and the increasingly tight security settings in Mac OS. Basically, Apple has changed the NS Open and Save panels to always behave as though an application is sandboxed . I take this as further evidence that Apple soon hopes to force all Mac app distributio...

Re: can't add, create volumes Mac OS Catalina

Thank you for checking! Too bad it's not such a quick fix, but I guess this could be a number of different issues. Maybe it's a permissions problem? I'll download the Catalina beta to try tracing the error we're encountering.

Re: can't add, create volumes Mac OS Catalina

I've attempted to switch to the updated API. It seems to be working in 10.14, but I haven't installed the 10.15 beta yet.

The test build is here (source); can someone running Catalina check if the problem persists?

Re: can't add, create volumes Mac OS Catalina

Add/Create both use the beginSheetForDirectory method to open a file browser. Apple deprecated that back in 10.6, and 10.15 may be officially dropping support. That looks to be the case in teelekkung's video since all browse modals fail to open. Apple recommends moving to beginSheetModalForWindow . ...

Re: Working on bin/cue support in SheepShaver

Thanks for testing, almeath! It looks like Warcraft II is the same as Warcraft I, using the CD player as a Sound Input device and passing through audio. Unfortunately, I still haven't found better documentation on the Sound Input Manager. For Descent, I wonder if the lack of CD scanning is the probl...

Working on bin/cue support in SheepShaver

It's been almost 9 years since Geoffrey Brown kindly contributed BII code for limited bin/cue support (partly inspired by the excellent DosBox team's bin/cue reader ). Sadly, the feature never made it into standard builds of either BasiliskII or SheepShaver. I suppose this was due to a number of res...

Re: Purple Moon games (ISO and toast files) "unreadable"

I realized we were probably derailing the other topic about physical CD support in SheepShaver, so I'll move back to this thread. Updated ISO images have been uploaded for each of the Rockett games except Camp Adventures. While the first five are encoded as PS discs, the final one is encoded as a PS...

Re: Physical game CDs and macOS

Is it just the Rockett series posing the problem, or other Purple Moon games? I can probably move them through a workflow and convert the affected titles. It sounds like a tricky thing for others to setup, and I already have a process in place, so I'll give it a try. I was using Toast 7 because it s...

Re: Physical game CDs and macOS

Yeah, as Ronald said, I didn't try the Virtual CD Mounter, but the ISO continues to work for me just mounted as a CD-ROM to the Volumes list. I'm glad to hear confirmation it's working for someone else; thanks, 24bit! @GrimDescendant, make sure to mount it as a CD-ROM and not just a regular volume. ...

Re: Purple Moon games (ISO and toast files) "unreadable"

NeriSiren, based on discussion in this related topic , I'm guessing Rockett's games won't mount because of the encoding they use. I've had success on a Mac OS Mojave host with SheepShaver 2.5 using an ISO created with the following steps: - Drag the .toast image into Toast 7 - Save as Bin/Cue Image....

Re: Physical game CDs and macOS

The lack of physical CD support is an unfortunate gap in SheepShaver's capabilities. BIN/CUE images would enable virtual mounting of any type of CD, so I've been playing with BIN/CUE support locally (based on Geoffrey Brown's work which I learned via Cat7 ). Audio tracks are still iffy, and only sta...

Re: Undeletable locked file in Trash

I'm glad to hear you found a fix using ResEdit! I ran into the issue a couple months ago and stumbled across the method described here to unlock the file. If you encounter the problem a lot, which can happen when moving files through the shared disk depending on the host, it might be worth a look. I...

Re: Mounting a mixed-mode BIN/CUE in Qemu?

GOG recently re-released the DOS version of Warcraft 1 if you want a pre-packaged way to play. Of course, the Mac version is better with 640x480 graphics and CD audio, but it comes with the same difficulties as emulating any game from a mixed-mode CD — namely, the lack of a reliable way to mount bot...

I had the same issue when installing Tiger a while back. When you make the disc image, you'll want to use DVD/CD Master directly (.cdr) rather than a .dmg. Additionally, take note of this step Ronald described when he encountered the same issue : Ronald P. Regensburg : For creating the CD image in O...

Re: Invisible cursor in EV Nova

I wanted to add that you can also emulate EV Nova in Basilisk II, so long as you run Mac OS 8.1 and EV Nova version 1.0.2. In Basilisk II, the menu fully loads and the in-game targeting cursor works. Make sure to allocate it a lot of memory though since it's a hefty game from 8.1's perspective. Emul...

Re: SheepShaver version 2.5 for MacOSX/macOS for testing

If it's quitting immediately on launch, it's most often due to the program not finding a compatible ROM file. For your setup, you'll want to use the newworld86 ROM, but make sure the file you rename to "Mac OS ROM" is the ROM file itself, not the .zip container. It sounds like you did extr...

Well, I finally got it. I had to struggle through issues that probably should be obvious, but are not obvious to someone who does this for the first time. The prefs file needed to use full paths, otherwise SheepShaver would not run. The key needed to be pressed while SheepShaver was in front, not w...

Re: MacOSX/OSX/macOS 64-bit build for testing

If you're using Xcode, you should be able to open video_sdl2.cpp in the file browser and just click in the margin by the switch command to set a breakpoint. If you're building for debug/testing, when you press the play button, it should stop and open the visual debugger whenever you hit a key. At le...
