Re: What happened to this portion of the website?

Uh, which portion? That's just the front page.

There is a reference there to Mark "vMac" Nadelin and his politics. RIP, Mark.

Re: Old Issues of Byte Magazine

I think they have everything from the first ten years now. If you are interested in this sort of thing, the microfilm collection on Open Library is now massive. I believe "microfilm" is now the largest category on the site with 131,000 separate issues scanned in. I wish I knew where they g...

Old Issues of Byte Magazine

The Open Library microfilm scanner continues to scan, and they've just uploaded a bunch of "Byte" issues from 1983 through 1986. Probably some interesting Macintosh stuff in there.

Re: Classic Macintosh: New TCP/IP and Apps

I dunno if you noticed, but he is taking beta testers. You could probably experiment with it yourself. That's great! I haven't heard from DogCow in years. I do wonder how they're going to support TLS1.2 on a 128k, since the dedicated chip that usually handles its ciphers is more powerful than a 128k...

Classic Macintosh: New TCP/IP and Apps

Here's an e-mail I got from DogCow over at MacGUI - https://macgui.com/ Under development now is a brand-new TCP/IP and suite of Internet applications for the classic Macintosh of the 1980s and 1990s: Telnet, Email, FTP, and HTTP. The goal here is connectivity to the modern Internet for all classic ...

Might I suggest buying a copy of "The Secret History of Macintosh Gaming" on the Kindle for eight bucks? Amazon Link: https://amzn.to/3nS9DzJ You can just go chapter by chapter and play the games the book talks about. Understanding the development and creative history of the games might ma...

Software News from 1980s

Since December, the Open Library has been scanning in a massive microfilm collection covering magazines from the late 70s thru early 90s. Recently, they added a bunch of issues of "Software News" from the 1980s. Fun stuff. Find them here: https://archive.org/details/inlibrary?and%5B%5D=sof...

Stuffit Deluxe User Guide

Open Library just scanned in the user guide for Stuffit Deluxe printed in 1994.

I miss the days when we could get a 165 page hardcopy of the manual for some archive software.

Chris Crawford's Balance of Power book

I spend way too much time poking around the Open Library these days. But here's a fun find: https://openlibrary.org/books/OL2724511M/Balance_of_power It's the companion book for Chris Crawford's old "Balance of Power" game. And, interestingly, the scanned copy was signed by Crawford, with ...

Re: Programming my own Mac emulator

You cool if I add a link to the project in the wiki? I won't create a page for it now, but I'll stick it on the "other emulator" page. There's a fair amount of updating going on right now. We've managed to reach up to the point the emulator can execute the InitSlots routine. We've also got...

Re: Executor Setup Guide

I don't know what to suggest, but did you try the builds I linked to in the other Executor 2000 topic here? Well... I've been attempting to set up Executor 2000 on Big Sur. And I've come across my repeated bane of compilation: Qt5. No matter what I do, I can't seem to make cmake find the Qt5 librari...

Actually, you might be able to try these out:

I don't know if the Mac OS X version is based on Executor 2000, but it seems to be pretty recent. I'll link to it in the wiki. Let me know if it runs okay on your end.

Re: Executor Setup Guide

I updated the guide a little bit. For the first time in twelve years. Executor still runs in Windows. Makehfv doesn't work anymore, but I guess people can easily create disk images in the Basilisk II GUI or in HFVexplorer. It is probably necessary for most people to "run as administrator" ...

Anyone here have builds of this? I updated the "back pages" of the wiki yesterday, and would love to provide some links. We currently link to compiled versions of the original Executor, which are less than ideal.

Re: Sheepshaver stopped opening on Windows

Nothing really comes to mind. I would just suggest deleting everything but the ROM and disk images you are using. Try downloading (the most recent version) and just setting it up from scratch. That should only take a couple minutes. If something is wrong in the prefs file that will take care of it. ...

You sure it isn't just starting minimized? For some reason, it sometimes starts but is already minimized, with an icon down in the task bar. You don't see a window for even a moment in that case. Meanwhile, on some versions of SheepShaver there aren't proper error messages when the path to the ROM i...
