Re: Emulators that don't require a mass of

(sheepshaver's guide makes frequent references to mac OS installation disks, but doesn't mention if we are talking the desired OS you want, or the one specified for your laptop if you're running OSX.) A large amount of prior knowledge or programs are also necessary, such as toast ($80) to make a .t...

I didn't know this was a thing. Would the SoftFPU extension be an option? (Googling around, I can't seem to find if it's available for download anywhere.)

Re: Cannot install game: error opening QuickTime

There never was a CD icon on my MacOS desktop when I double-clicked the game installer, so I am unsure how to get the CD icon to appear. I'm sure I'm making an inane mistake, but I've tried everything I can think of to adhere to your response and have reached a dead end. As has been stated: Just ke...

OR, if I should try to get a bootable ISO of MacOS7... I'm not sure such a thing exists – or at least, not for Sheepshaver. I applaud your tenacity! May I suggest BoxedWine? http://www.boxedwine.org/ I have heard about Wine, not sure what's BoxedWine. Yes, that's why I provided the link. :???: As f...

Re: Game "Vikings" crashes SheepShaver on start

(The game is a bitch that uses 16bit installer and a quicktime. Running on Win10? Forget it. Emulated WinXP under VirtualBox? It starts, but doesn't show any videos and claims there is no CD in the drive. Emulating under Windows 98SE and 95 is extremely slow and the sound stutters a lot. I have tri...

Have you tried using Basilisk II instead? Hypercard ought to run fine under Mac OS 7.5.x or 8.1.

Alternatively, have you tried running Sheepshaver or Basilisk II on your Windows server?

Maelstrom is also open source. So is Aquaria, but that was never an Ambrosia exclusive so it hardly seems worth mentioning. (Same goes for the ports of Introversion's games.)

Ambrosia's website is gone?

Commentary on today's XKCD has led me to learn that, as per https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ambrosia_Software , Ambrosia's website apparently vanished last month – though as some have noted, it ceased to be properly functional for the purposes of software registration some time ago. What could the fut...

Re: SheepShaver & Bad day on the Midway

I would like to know if there is a known cause for this behaviour. Why don't the animations show when the game is started the first time and only after a restart of Sheepshaver the animations suddenly are there? Sheepshaver is an imperfect emulator no longer under active development and it is not a...

Re: DropStuff registration number

Is this the problem you're describing in this old thread? https://emaculation.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=9543&p=58346 Since the file sizes are identical, it seems to me that the resource fork information isn't being lost – aside from the Type/Creator data. If that's the case, then instea...

what might other people be able to do with those files that we can't? Sounds like they're just unusable. If I follow this correctly, now that the files have been copied off the CD using a version of MacOS later than 8.0, they will work fine anywhere. And the CD will also work correctly as-is in Bas...

Re: Arduino Macintosh clone

While there have been things done with the 68k Amiga and Sega Genesis (most recently the Mega Sg), at this point any such Macintosh clone would inevitably have to at least include Apple's copyrighted ROMs. But that's probably not the only impediment.

Re: E-Maculation is Twenty Years Old!

Ahh, it was twenty years ago that I left my local Apple-dominated school board behind and moved on to university, where the labs were stocked with Windows 9x PCs. Younger me would be quite enthralled with the range of tools available today. It was vaguely satisfying around 14 years ago when I took a...

This is unclear. Are you double-clicking the file in the Finder? Are you starting Stuffit Expander and then using the File menu to open the file? Or are you trying to open the file after it has been extracted with Expander?

I have a serious hankering to play some old Apogee games. You know, Nanosaur, Bugdom, and that old caveman racing game I forget the name of. None of those were Apogee games, but I suspect you're thinking of BC Racers . There used to be a "3D Realms Anthology" available on Steam and so on ...

I own a MacBook Pro without a built-in disc drive, but I have an external one I plug in through USB, so if I put the game in that, will it work? Do I install the game on the virtual machine from the hybrid iso and then insert the actual disc to play it? If I'm not mistaken, there is nothing you can...

I agree; this board seems to have been increasing in activity as of late. Yeah, but according to the Wikipedia page on SheepShaver , this emulator has not had a stable release since its 2.3 release on May 14, 2006. I'm not sure why, but it seems to be very common for open-source projects to have som...

Re: Game worked - then stopped working

For years, I had it successfully emulated on my old computer, and it was really pretty stable: I'd regularly play an old game (Castles: Siege & Conquest) and it worked fine. Ahh, good times, that game. Just in case you're not aware, GOG has the DOS version packaged with DOSBox; it's cheap (when...

I've tried running it in Windows but even though it does work, it is pretty awful with lots of glitches.
So, you were trying the Windows version in Windows 10? A virtual machine running Win9x would behave better, I suspect. It might even behave with the new BoxedWine.

Neat. Do you have a particular target in mind? A few years ago I would have suggested Pegasus Prime, but there's a Windows-friendly variant legally available these days. And I might suggest Chu-Teng, but it seems an English version for Windows is also well on its way . 3D accelerated games that can'...

I'm not aware of anyone having accomplished this, but it seems it should be possible. I dimly recall one occasion waaaay back when it was in active development when ...
