Re: Forcing fullscreen mode in applications?

I remember 13 years back or so that my dads laptop as well as his old Macintosh could run stuff in Fullscreen. In my emulation it appears in a small square with everything else black. Anyone knows? The likely answer is that you need to set your desktop resolution to the resolution of the emulated M...

Re: CSI Video game

What game you are referring to specifically? According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CSI_(video_games) , the first CSI video game came out in 2003. It is likely that the game was written for Mac OS X and that the game will never run in SheepShaver, which only runs earlier versions of Mac OS. That...

Re: [Offer] New 'General' GUI (Beta)

Are you running Windows 10, or some other version of Windows? You might need to put comctl32.ocx in the same directory as the program.

Re: [Offer] New 'General' GUI (Beta)

That message means that comctl32.ocx is missing. That is an extremely common requirement for older software. See for instance https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/apps_windows_10-winapps-appscat_tools/comctl32ocx-file-missinginvalid-for-windows-10/0d515059-0397-4b72-a39b-120a7be96043?au...

Re: Stuffit for Windows Edition 9 crashes in 64-bit W7 HPE S

If you don't mind using the command line, The Unarchiver ought to be completely capable of extracting the disk image from the .sea.bin. An example is provided here: https://www.emaculation.com/doku.php/extracting_stuffit_5_files_in_windows The situation is slightly different in this case since you d...

Re: Surfing the Internet on SheepShaver

I saw a video a while ago about how some ancient browsers (early versions of Internet Explorer, for instance) will not work without some sort of proxy as they send http requests that modern servers do not understand. I can't specifically recall which video that was, though.

Re: SimCity 2000 strange bugs in High Sierra?

The game only works in 256 colours, it even warns you if the screen is set to a different colour depth. So I don't think it could be that, but thanks anyway. Did you try what I suggested anyway..? Sometimes Basilisk II does this strange thing where the colors don't display correctly, even if 256 co...

Re: SimCity 2000 strange bugs in High Sierra?

I found this old thread: http://www.emaculation.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=7047&start=775 It mentions a version 1.3, but then the next screenshot is 1.2, so perhaps that is a mistake. Maybe it's a color palette problem? Those are common enough. Have you tried going into your Display cont...

Re: Free, Non-Apple 68k MacOS Implementation(s)?

I'd like to think the lack of such a reimplementation is the major obstacle preventing heaps of classic MacOS software from being properly rereleased to new audiences. This seems like a good reason to me. I guess I am thinking along the lines of, "If I/we build it, will they come?". Not t...

Re: What about an unified Emulator?

Sounds pretty much like what Softmac tried to do, back in the day.

It doesn't strike me as very useful, personally – PearPC in particular has specific uses that are entirely unrelated to anything you might do with mini vMac, Basilisk, or SheepShaver.

Re: Free, Non-Apple 68k MacOS Implementation(s)?

I like the idea of using HFVExplorer instead of trying to re-implement the Finder, but alas, the source code for HFVExplorer has yet to emerge. (As per http://emaculation.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=9071 , even mini vMac will work without a Finder.) But then, I suppose replacing the Finder is ...

Lastly, I downloaded the Direct X June 2010 Runtime update, extracted it, and ran Direct X "Setup" inside the extracted folder. Some will say, "But Windows 10 has DirectX12...it should be compatible with Direct X 9 already,"....nope....It was a partial compatibility media packag...

Re: Opening and saving files for Photoshop 0.63

TIFF has undergone a lot of revisions over the years and it's possible that a TIFF created with modern software will be incompatible with such an old program. PICT can also be tricky since PICT files use a resource fork – if you are trying to somehow copy a PICT file from a Windows machine, the reso...

The Apple II BASIC was licensed from Microsoft. When it came to the Macintosh, some interesting shenanigans ensued. https://www.folklore.org/StoryView.py?story=MacBasic.txt as a condition for agreeing to renew Applesoft, [Bill Gates] demanded that Apple abandon MacBasic, buying it from Apple for the...

Patent protection ends after twenty years, maximum, with no particularly straightforward means of renewal.

Ergo, Intel cannot use patent protection to prevent emulation forever.

I would think that the Frotz interpreter would be easily ported to System 6 – but then, getting anything compiled for System 6 these days seems like an arduous task. So does Bochs, but it's not in the official binaries. The relevant patch is derived from DOSBox; perhaps whatever changes were made there would be useful here?
