Guest 3D acceleration
Sorry if this is the wrong thread to post this question. Have there been any improvements in macOS Qemu for OS X guest 3D acceleration? In case there haven't, are there any plans to achieve said acceleration in the foreseeable future? If such acceleration were to be achieved, I wonder if Qemu would ...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
Now that version 2.7 of Qemu is finally out, I wonder if there might be some clarification regarding the relative advantage or disadvantage of using the various builds in the thread http://www.emaculation.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=8848. Isn't there an up-to-date build that includes all the ...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
Initial experience with Qemu: With the help of at least two of this forum's members, I finally succeeded in installing both OS X Tiger 10.4.11 with all of its updates (including Classic) on Qemu and just about everything works, with some caveats. There's no sound "hardware", so it would ap...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
Has anyone tried my suggestions of using JACK or similar to simply route the audio to the host? Since audio processing seems to work and it's just the output hardware we're lacking, this should enable output to the host. For that matter, JACK inegration in qemu should work, as it's OSS and cross-pl...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
Further on the sound issue, I've noticed that some users commented on the lack or defective sound they were getting on the Snow Leopard Server virtual machines on platforms such a VMware Fusion. It appears a preliminary solution found was to use the EnsoniqAudioPCI package for Leopard and/or Lion on...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
If you are going to install a classic system folder on the OSX partition, you can try this openbios. It allows you to use the startup disk control panel in both Mac OS and OSX. http://www.open.ou.nl/hsp/downloads3/openbios-qemu-wip-13082016-startupfolder.elf.zip Many thanks for that and for the con...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
Yeah the first reboot can be slow. Are you using a retail or "grey" disc? IIRC, grey discs should have a Classic installer on them. I was unable to find my original Tiger DVD, which was grey, so I've used a copy that I made when I bought it. In order to install classic, I've used the seco...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
It sounds like you've imaged the volume, but not the whole disc, so it's missing the partition map required to make it bootable. I haven't proceeded with your advice yet, but I think you are absolutely right. Many thanks. Edit: As already said, you were right. Currently installing Tiger. I don't re...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
I've finally decided to take the plunge by installing Tiger on Qemu, but it seems I've got some resounding failure. This is what I've done: I downloaded http://www.open.ou.nl/hsp/downloads3/Qemu_28pre-vga-OSX-Leopard-network-wip-21082016.zip and placed its unzipped contents in a folder in ~/Download...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
I forgot to mention the HL-3150CDW is not a PostScript printer, but, please, gentlemen, don't dwell on this particular case. Qemu is the point here.

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
If it's just a matter of a missing PPD, you can copy the corresponding PPD file for your printer from System/Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources in your host system to the same location in Tiger. Hmmm. As far as I know, my current PPD for that printer is Intel-compatible only. How Tiger would ...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
Many thanks for your explanations, Cat_7. By the way, my old Xerox Phaser printer died on me and I purchased a cheap Brother colour laser printer (HL-3150CDW), which lacks a PPD file for versions of OS X previous to Snow Leopard. Is there a way I can use this printer from inside a Tiger virtual mach...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
Can someone clarify whether these latest Qemu shortcomings affect all platforms equally or are they Windows-specific? A few days ago, I came to the conclusion that running OS 9.2.2 and/or OS 10.4.11 on Qemu in OS X was entirely functional, except for sound (although I have some lingering doubts abou...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
When you mention 9.2, do you mean the 9.2 itself, or just its installer? If it's the former, have all the Open Transport issues been ironed out?Cat_7 wrote:An OSX build of Qemu pre 2.7 with patched OpenBios is now able to boot unaltered 9.1 and 9.2 images.

macOS Sierra
From what I've read, it appears that the possibility of running application in 32-bit mode is no longer present in macOS Sierra. I wonder if that will definitively cripple SheepShaver, which can't run in 64-bit mode in El Capitan. Perhaps the QEMU solution will finally be ready by the time Sierra is...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
Some of the newer qemu components seem to require newer libraries to be installed in /usr/, which is now impossible to accomplish in El Capitan, unless SIP is disabled.

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
So, is there any news at all regarding the progress of this project? Is there any likelihood to the scenario that someone (Cormac O'Brien?) will make booting of OS 9.2 possible in Qemu? Or is it more likely that we'll have to wait until at least the second half of 2016?

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system
Those mentions to Tiger 10.4.11 running on VirtualBox are somewhat confusing to me. I interpret that is NOT the stock PPC Tiger, but a especially compiled version for Intel. Is this hunch correct?
