old scanner

Post by johnken »

I have a Microtek scanner which worked on my old Mac, OS 10.2.8. I can't install the driver into my new Mac, OS10.6.8, because there is no Classic Support on this operating system. The Missing Manual on Snow Leopard said Sheepshaver would allow one to operate old OS 9 programs on Snow Leopard, but apparently it won't work for this. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can avoid sending this functioning piece of equipment to the recyclers?

Hi,

Is this scanner connected through USB? Which model is it?

SheepShaver will not support USB devices. To pass-through an USB device only Qemu running Mac OS 9.2 or 10.2 might be useful. But I think it will not run on an OSX 10.6.8 host.

To by-pass the original software, you might be able to install Xsane on OSX. Again, no idea whether it will run on 10.6.8.

Any of these might be supported:

Xsane runs on 10.6.8, but I seem to recall 10.7 broke it for me. I've successfully used it to run old SANE-compliant scanners. We can't really help much more without knowing which Microtek scanner you're trying to use :)
