Hello,
do you know what happened to the Mac startup sound?
MiniVMac does play it, as far as I know, some early versions of BasiliskII did it too.
The recent versions of BII and SS do not play a startup sound.
Why?
It would be pretty cool to have the "bong" back, wouldn't it?

Older versions of Basilisk II were able to extract the sound from the ROM as a WAV file. The latest versions of BII obviously don't have this ability (SS never did), but I believe you can add your own startup sound into the BII folder, if it is named properly (I can't remember what that filename is supposed to be unfortunately.

On Mac OS X SheepShaver, a lot of time ago I had an Applescript app which played an startup sound (Performa 52xx, i think) and then booted SS... it was easy to do, just two lines of code.

No doubt the same thing could be done with Windows Batch/CMD scripting or GNU+Linux scripts.
