Running PPC software on Lion ...

Post by rlesperance »

Hi ... With all the incredible work done to help us run OS 9 apps on OS X, is there any clue to do the same thing with PPC apps on Lion ? Thanks in advance.

You mean run PPC apps for Mac OS X up to 10.4? Sadly, I know of no efforts in that direction, besides of course the (almost) abandoned PearPC program. PearPC can't run with its JIT compiler activated on Intel Macs, so it's dead slow.

The solution is to run PearPC (Windows version) inside WineSkin Winery -- JIT works fine, and it's faster than the OS X build.

I know, I know, this thread's over a year stale, but hey... I'm just catching up on old threads I haven't looked at in a while :)

Using the WinPearPC/WineSkin combo, I've got OS X 10.1 through 10.4 PPC working fairly smoothly on top of OS X 10.8.4 Intel; software is actually usable.

Waiting for the QEmu gurus to finish with the latest updates to see if we'll get 9.2.2-10.0 and 10.5PPC capability through that route soon :)
