3.5 inch Floppy Disks(400k/800k)

Post by oneloneknight »

Hello,

after the successful installation of SheepShaver(7.5.5) and Basilisk II(7.5.5) on my MBP3.1(10.6.8) and MBP8.2(10.7.5) I have now asked me the question, what possibility I have to import old 400k and 800k floppy disks...

I'm a Mac user since 1986 and am very disappointed that there is apparently no more possibilities and support by Apple. Even with floppydisc.com I have found no solution because there is no more service for this type floppy disks.

Do you have any idea, with the exception of the purchase of an old system?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Simon

You can get specialized floppy controller hardware such as the Kryoflux or Catweasel, or buy the registered version of DSK2FDI and use the specialized parallel-port cable. But an old system might be your cheapest option.

Thanks!

It looks like the 'KryoFlux Boards' would be a good choice?!

Not sure, but I've used an old system with a null modem cable in the past (USB serial converter). An easier way would probably be to find a slightly newer system with Ethernet.

Ask a helpful soul with a working "Old World" Mac to make images of your floppies.
Many here still own Macs capable of reading 400k/800k floppies.
I gave away my last oldie just recently, sorry.
