Can I slim down an OS install ISO?

Anything about Mac emulation that does not belong in the above categories.

Can I slim down an OS install ISO?

Post by swapjim »

Some of the ISO images I found are on the 300MB+ size and they contain a lot of software I don't want to. Is there a way to just keep the OS installation files and remove all the rest?

Some of these images are bootable, and if possible I don't want to lose that.

If what I'm asking is not easy or possible, then perhaps you can give me a hint on where to get slimmer ISOs? Slimmer = just the OS and drivers. No Acrobat reader, no Internet Explorer, and so on.

These are useful programs but I'd like to have them once, not 5 times (one in each ISO)!

Do you want smaller image files or slimmer installation?

Running the installer, you can choose to do a custom installation, excluding anything you do not want (or including software that is not installed by default).

I just realized I can create an image and then copy just the installers from the ISOs. Then I'll use a boot floppy to boot the machine and pick the OS version I want.
