Issues with sound and networking on OSX 108.5

Post by MarisaG »

I have the 2.5 version of Sheepshaver running fine on my OSX 10.8.5 host OS except the sound and networking aren't working.

For the sound I have the default device entries but I don't get any sound and in the control panel it doesn't list any audio devices for me to choose.

For the networking I put in "slirp" in the ethernet device field and in the tcp/ip cpanel says it is using ethernet with DHCP but no network apps I am trying seem to work.

Any ideas about these issues?

Which SheepShaver build do you use? On OSX 10.8 (Mountain Lion) you should use the 4 May 2019 build.

Which Mac OS version did you install in SheepShaver? The "Sound" control panel may be in a different location with some other than Mac OS 9 versions.

Which network applications did you use to connect to which locations on the internet? Note that the old browsers included with the Mac OS installations are incompatible with most modern websites.

That is the build of SheepShaver I used. I have a Mac website that does not depend on HTTPS and works fine on the host MacOS, inside SheepShaver I tried that website and my FirstClass BBS. The issue is it can't even try and connect. It times out trying to connect so its not due to "modern" features. I have it set up the same as SheepShaver on my Ubuntu desktop...

BTW: I am using a Intel-based Mac, if that matters...

Make sure slirp networking is enabled in SheepShaver preferences (Ethernet Interface: slirp).

If TCP/IP is set to Ethernet and DHCP server. It should get the addresses from the slirp networking as soon as you try IP network access (for instance with a browser).

If that does not work, you can also configure TCP/IP control panel manually for slirp networking:
IP Address: 10.0.2.15
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Router address: 10.0.2.2
Name-server address: 10.0.2.3

And about sound:
You do not mention the installed Mac OS version. In Mac OS 8.5/8.6, and sometimes in 8.1, the Sound control panel is installed in the “Apple Extras” folder. You can use it there to select the built-in output device.
