SimpleText keeps crashing?

I'm running Sheepshaver v2.5, Aug 10, 2020 edition on a Mac OS X 10.15.6 Catalina host. My Sheepshaver Mac OS version is 9.0. I have 512 MB RAM allocated in Sheepshaver's prefs.

Other apps seem to run normally, but every time I start up SimpleText, it crashes the Mac OS as well as Sheepshaver. It's been so long I don't even remember how to begin to troubleshoot these things on OS 9!

Any ideas out there? Thanks in advance!

Odd. I never had SimpleText crash, not on a real Mac and not in an emulator

My first thought was to trash the SimpleText preferences file. But apparently there is no such file.

Anyone else?

Well, this morning I can no longer reproduce it, last night was every time.

I should also add that there was other weird stuff going on last night, where seemingly random crashes were occurring frequently, even just with simple Finder operations.

Not sure what I might have changed since then (don't think I changed anything actually) - so will chalk it up to voodoo for now.

Sorry for the noise!

It could just be some other process writing to the memory SheepShaver uses. Closing things down and starting back up is usually enough to fix this.

I totally get that, but was surprised when it persisted yesterday, despite the virtual machine being rebooted each time after it crashed. Anyway, all is good now, thanks again for the responses!

Not only rebooting the emulator, but also rebooting the host may be needed to solve memory related SheepShaver issues.

Ahhh - now I understand. Yes, that likely explains it. Thank you!
