No sound when playing Puppet Motel

Post by sieffdee »

Hello, I'm very new to this but so far successfully installed SheepShaver version 2.5 on my Mac OS 10.14.6
I also successfully opened the game Puppet Motel within SheepShaver (by creating the disk image from a downloaded version, etc)
Everything seems to be running smoothly except there is NO SOUND
...In fact, to be precise, originally I thought there WAS sound, but maybe it was VERY VERY low?
My volume control from the bar seemed to be stuck at the bottom
I found somewhere on this forum a suggestion to access it through Control Panels > Sound
but that didn't seem to help.
I read another suggestion on here to delete any files with "Quicktime", restart, re-install with the System extensions that came with the game, restart
I did all those things but still no sound (and even the faint whisper I may have initially heard seems missing)...
The volume control still seems stuck so I don't know whether to blame that or a Quicktime extensions problem

Here's the game: http://macintoshgarden.org/games/puppet-motel
although I actually downloaded mine from archive.org

Any suggestions are much appreciated!

this is how weird the volume control seems to work...
in the control bar it snaps back to quiet even though it "sticks" in the control panel

Hi,

Just to be sure: did you also select (click) on the Built-in sound device?

Best,

(I had done a clean install and am using the default OS9 QT 4.1 rather than using the QT 2 extensions that came with the game.)

Yes, better not downgrade QuickTime. QT versions should be backward compatible. You can upgrade QT if needed for some software, but note that QT 4.1.2 is the latest version that is compatible with SheepShaver.
