Version Numbers

Post by fahlman »

Why does the version number rarely change when a new version is released?

Regular bug fixes and improvements are made in source, but the version number does not change in the source with each change. The only way to discern between builds posted here is to refer to it by build date, which also reflects the state of the source on that date. Version changed from 2.4 to 2.5 with the change to SDL2 in kanjitalk755 source.

Since 2018 we only post builds from kanjitalk755 source. Besides the original source (which we do not use anymore) there are several different forks. Builds from different forks cannot be simply discerned by version number or build date.

If you want to know why the version number in kanjitalk755 fork does not change, you will have to ask kanjitalk755 himself, he is the the developer and owner of the fork we use for our builds: https://github.com/kanjitalk755/macemu
