CD rom
hi all when i run the sheepshaver.exe it ejects my cdrom with the mac os cd init how can i stop it from keep ejecting it please help
Unless you tell the Mac OS burning software (like Toast) to make the CD bootable, it won't boot a system even though it has a System Folder on it. A Mac (or Mac emulator) will spit it out as the CD hasn't been specially prepared for booting.

I have two legit/legal bootable CD's:
1. OS 8.1 - This causes SheepShaver to quit instantly.
2. OS 9.0.4 - This gets to about 1/4 through the startup process and hangs indefinetly.
I also have a legit recovery software CD that contains a .img file called " Mac OS 8.5 Multi-Install.img".
How can I get SheepShaver to boot with this?
I have tried dragging this file from the CD to my C: drive in Basilisk, which creates a .img file. I have tried using this file as "disk" and also as "cd" in the SheepShaver prefs file to no avail.
Copying this file to C: in HFV Explorer creates a .bin file.
EDIT: It turns out I in fact can get to the desktop with the OS 9.0.4 CD (With extensions off), but once there, I am unable to to anything. The CD icon on the desktop shows a gray window with a locked lock icon when double-clicked, and the apple menu does nothing. Attempting to move the trash can caused SheepShaver to quit with a Windows system error.
EDIT #2: I've just realized that my locked OS 9 CD also happened to someone in the screenshots thread: http://www.emaculation.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=2391. I tried his prefs file, and I can now access the CD, and I am now installing OS 9.0.4!

Hello,
The orginal settings file only allows for 16 MB of memory. When you try it install or start with that amount of memory extensions are automatically turned off in OS 8.5 and 9.0
I guess access to cd rom is then impaired too.
So change memory to something usefull, like
256 MB: ramsize 268435456
126 MB: ramsize 134217728
64 MB: ramsize 67108864
Before starting SheepShaver
Best wishes

I have placed the cdenable.sys in windows/system32, and it still ejects the cd. I remember in Baisilik II you had to this for having Cd-rom support. I'm on windows xp.
thanks
UPDATE: Hmm, I tried putting it windows/system32/drivers (that's what it says to do for Baisilik II) and it just opens and then instantly closes....
UPSATE 2: Success! It tries to install, but crashes in the middle. I'll give it a little more memory and see if it works....
Here are the prefs :
