Its not a joke actualy, Shapeshifter is an 68K Mac emulator for the Amiga, it runs all classic MacOS's till 8.1. Ive used this emu pretty much some years ago, it made my Amiga 1200 with 68040 run MacOS 8.1 faster than real Macs in those days. (Macs used to have the LC versions of the 68040+060 (without MMU) while Amiga's always used the full 68K (with MMU))

Actually, about a third of the '040 macs used the full 68040 cpu.

I think it might also have something to do with this British animated series.

It appears the website has been taken down....this isn't good.

http://www.uni-mainz.de/~bauec002/SheepShaver.html

The name, as was clearly printed on the site when it was still up is that it came from the name "ShapeShifter", from and amiga emulator for the 68k macs.

EDIT: It appears that the Student's directories at uni-mainz.de as changed location. The new address is:

I'b be surprised if the SheepShaver name had anything to do with Grommet and Sean the Sheep.

Thanks. I could have sworn I read an interview with Christian Bauer (by Marc Hoffman?) where Mr. Bauer explains a link between Grommet and SheepShaver.
